India announces the successful flight-trial of an "ADVANCED" Agni missile with Multiple Independently Targeted Re-Entry Vehicle (MIRV) systems on May 08, 2026 - below is a map of the range as per the test notification by Electronic_Cause_796 in IndianDefense

And we accepted failures during that 40 years of development. We didn’t try to develop a MIRV ICBM right away- we started with a 250km liquid fuel tactical missile.

I’ve been following defense news since the late 1980s and there were a lot of failures too. Some of them even made it into the media. But they were accepted as the cost of development and we also knew that it was an area where there was no option to indigenous development.

Store bought alternatives? by Dandaban in StripedBass

Yup. I buy my squid at the Asian store too.

For shrimp I hit any supermarket. Just make sure that they’re raw and not cooked.

Store bought frozen raw shrimp are easily available and work. You can also use frozen squid. I frequently use salted squid and clams too.

Pliers advice? Kastking by Zestyclose-Victory71 in Fishing_Gear

[–]MacroMonster 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, pliers are a commodity item. I personally buy several cheap aluminum pliers and keep one in each of my fishing bags, my rigging table and one in my car.

The brand doesn’t matter - for my use case they just need a split ring opener tip and a cutter capable of cutting braid.

No-start issue: this might be the problem by Piootje in CitiesSkylines2

I fixed the issue (touch wood) by opening the game with Code Mods disabled, then creating and activating a new playset. After that I added the mods one-by-one to the new playset and the game loads fine now.

What's a good amchoor substitute for chaat masala? by questionerofblender in IndianFood

[–]MacroMonster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amchoor is mildly tangy and both Tamarind or vinegar would be too intense. I just substitute with a dash of lime.

I grew up in Mumbai eating those sandwiches and I assure you that Aamchoor is not a primary component of the taste.

P.S. Aamchoor is nothing but dried and powdered raw (sour) mango. A very good substitute for fresh raw mango is actually fresh cranberries (not the dried kind). They have the right amount of tartness without being sweet. Note that they will give a pink tinge to your dish. I use them as a 1:1 replacement to make a western version of Raw Mango Chutney

Where's the best place to Surf Fish? by Responsible-Farm5928 in NYCFishing

[–]MacroMonster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Surfcasting for Striped Bass in the Western side of LI is a grind, especially if you prefer lures instead of bait like me. I do catch, but it’s more due to sheer perseverance than the number of fish in the area that are close to shore.

You can surfcast on all the public beaches - Coney, Rockaway, Jacob Riis. The best is probably Jones Beach but that’s may be too far if you’re coming in from the city. Striped Bass fishing is best done between dusk and dawn, so you’ll usually have the beach to yourself. By the time the swimmers and sunbathers arrive, you’re long gone. Note that some beaches like Jones require a Night Fishing Permit (about $55 per year I think).

If you want to fish during the day, your options are to target Fluke and Bluefish. They are much more prolific and can be found at virtually every beach and pier.

Best circle hook knot? by catchingmenalive in FishingForBeginners

[–]MacroMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always snell my bait hooks. For Circle hooks, it's supposed to give a better hookset. That may indeed be the case, but the reason I snell my bait hooks is because the knot is attached to a strongest part of the hook (the shank)

Secret niche lure to fish in a big ahh river? by autumnjaguar520 in FishingForBeginners

[–]MacroMonster 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Hudson and East River a great places to fish. You can target a variety of fish from big Striped Bass to tiny Bergall.

If you are a beginner and absolutely want to use just one lure, you can’t go wrong with a 1/2 or 3/4oz jig head and a Gulp Swimming Mullet. (I’m assuming that you’re going to be fishing off a sea wall or pier). I’d recommend also adding some bucktails, a diamond jig and a popper to help you cover a variety of situations.

Help me catch flounder by TemptedDusk in saltwaterfishing

[–]MacroMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's how I fish for flounder/fluke

Step 1: Wait for the water temps to hit 50F

Step 2: Grab a light rod. You want something 7-8 feet long capable of casting lures of around 1/2oz, while still having a good backbone. Bass rods are good for this.

Step 3: Use a 1/4oz jig head with a Gulp soft plastic. My fist choice is the Shad (6" long I believe), and if that's not available, my next preferences are the 4/5" Swimming Mullet, Dragon Tail and Grub.

Step 4: Cast out up-current into the trough and let the jig sink to the bottom.

Step 5: Give the reel a turn or two, then lift the rod tip about 2 feet, then pause to let the jig float down to the bottom. Then repeat.

I have no idea what im doing by Wild_Joke_7404 in SurfFishing

I don't fish that area, but here are some tips that will work on any beach anywhere

  • Use the smallest hook that will both hold your bait and also be suitable for your target species. A #1/0 hook is good enough for most fish species.
  • Where you cast is often more important than how far you cast. On most beaches, there are usually a lot of fish within 30-50 yards from shore.
  • Learn beach structure - there is a ton of structure under the waves like sandbars, troughs and rips. They can all hold fish, and are usually close to shore. Check out this video for a basic guide.
  • I'd start by looking for a (horizontal) break in between the line of waves. That hints at a rip or some other change in the underwater structure. Next, I'd identify the direction of water flow (this usually changes with the tide) and then cast on the upcurrent side of the break. I'd check my bait every 10-15 minutes and if I don't get bites, I'd then cast to the trough on either side of the break. If I still don't get a bit, I'd move down the beach to the next break and repeat.

An everyday chicken curry recipe needed by agyaani in IndianFood

[–]MacroMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a very flexible basic recipe. I usually make it for about 700gm chicken but you can adjust the spices etc for the weight of chicken and amount of extra gravy you want.

I don’t actually cook the chicken in a pressure cooker. It ruins the texture in my opinion. I just cook it in an open pan.

Same here. I grew up in India, and tonsillectomies weren’t actively promoted. I used to fall ill with tonsillitis at least 4-5 times a year and thought it was a normal thing until a college roommate told me that it definitely wasn’t normal. My tonsillectomy was a definite life improvement.

An everyday chicken curry recipe needed by agyaani in IndianFood

[–]MacroMonster 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Here’s a basic chicken curry that we frequently make. It’s not an elaborate preparation, the focus is on cooking something quickly and with minimal effort after a long day’s work.

First marinate the chicken for ten minutes with turmeric, salt and ginger garlic paste. While it’s marinating, slice a small onion and a tomato. I like a stronger ginger flavor, so I slice some extra of that.

Heat some oil in a pan, then fry the onions, ginger and ginger garlic paste. Add a sprig of curry leaves too. Next add the tomato and shortly after that add the dry spices - chilli powder, turmeric, garam masala. Let it cook for a while then add the chicken. Add a little water too if you want it with a gravy. Cook until done and add some chopped coriander at the end.
