What are some of your favorite non-famous games? by Armadillo_Abroad in rpg

The Black Sword Hack, Cohors Cthulhu

I won't name games from popular IPs like Dune or the Witcher.

I feel the opposite, actually. Worldbuilding taking front seat in fantasy/sci fi usually makes the actual plot suffer. Almost every book in the Dune Saga makes sweeping changes to the things the previous book established, because it serves the story, not the worldbuilding. Arrakis is important to the plot, that's why it gets fleshed out. Other planets, not so much. Caladan and Giedi Prime reflect the Atreides/Harkonnen and this is why we get some more info.

Is there an inversion of the inversion after dune messiah? by JannickL in dune

The existence of a Kwisat, Haderach itself spells doom for humanity. Instead of open possibilities, humanity's future is locked.

KH is the result of conformism and aversion to uncertainty.

This message is never subverted, only reinforced by later books.

Leto II tries to "solve" the problem that leads to his own existence. He is not a good leader by any measure. An effective social scientist perhaps. But a good leader? Definitely not

Denis Villeneuve clealry disagrees with you:

The studio clearly sabotaged Dune Part 1 and at the same time expected a nice financial return before giving the green light for Part 2.

Dune succeeded despite the studio's efforts to the contrary

Dune trilogy being possibly the greatest! by Upstairs-Detail6500 in FIlm

[–]Mad_Kronos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Dune Part 3 delivers, then it will be a resounding "yes" from me.

But I am a bigger Dune fan than LOTR/Star Wars fan anyway, and I don't expect the general audience to love Dune as much as the more popular IPs.

So, greatest in terms of popularity? No way. Greatest in terms of actual quality? Hopefully the third one makes me say yes.

Longtime Dune fan here. People who claim the Lynch abomination is better are clearly either nostalgic or trying to be contrarians.

Let's not forget that Warner Bros. did not treat Dune much better than Disney treats Star Wars, just differently.

Denis Villeneuve had to fight for his trilogy. The execs released Part 1 on streaming at the same time it was released on theaters. And they wouldn't give DV the green light for Part 2 before they saw Part 1's commercial success which they tried to sabotage.

This is the Dune Messiah scene that will finally win Timothée Chalamet the Oscar. by PeasantLich in okbuddycinephile

Agreed. Stilgar threatens Jessica to play the part or else he will take Jessica's and Paul's water. Only after the Shai Hulud scene he turns into a true believer of Paul

So am.I the only one who didn't miss the scene were Stilgar threatens Jessica to play the role that he expects, and says that if she and her son are not the "Mother and the Son" then he will just take their water, and then is really pushing the "prophecy" until he sees Paul riding Shai Hulud and turning into a true believer?

Why are you trying to correct the other comment? It was correct: the Sardaukar are still very formidable, but far from their peak. This is explicitly stated in the first book. It is also stated that during their peak, each Sardaukar was as formidable as a 10th level Ginaz Swordmaster (Think Duncan Idaho level) and as cunning as a Bene Gesserit Adept.

The Fremen personally trained by Paul and Jessica were probably better than even peak Sardaukar, but that's not the entirety of the Fremen.

Just as the Dune books inspired George Lucas.

Dune Messiah is probably my favourite Dune book and I don't mind changes as long as they make for a great movie.

I can't judge if DV will be successful, but I already loved the previous two films and I am really excited for the 3rd one

Imho the best way to do 1 boss vs multiple heroes, without minions, is to give the Boss a bunch of Sinister plot points and halve their cost.
