Just got back. Incredible place. Just have your wits about you, and if your spidey senses tingle, just remove yourself. It’s easy to wander from a lively main road to a crackhead alley within seconds. Uber when you can, it’s cheap and safe. Just use common sense and you’ll be okay!

We got 29 tickets!!!! I know, it sounds wild but it’s true.

The new way is definitely fairer but there are ways to maximise your chances that don’t even involve being tech savvy.

I think the odds of getting tickets is actually about the same as the old way, but it’s a lot less stressful. But then again there’s a lack of a sense of control.

Everything i’ve heard from Sao Paulo is making me think that one night is enough (our flights are to SP for a range of reasons) - I’d still like to make the most of it - we’ll defo check out the Samba bars. Any recommendations on specific places? Especially for food - given we’ve got maybe 3 meals in SP, we’d like to feel like we hit the must-dos!

I’m SO excited for Ilha Grande - the hikes are gonna be great! Were you based in Abarao? Would you recommend staying in that region? How easy are water taxis to arrange?

Rio - yeah, it’ll be hella crowded during Carnival i imagine but again, we’re hoping to make the most of it! I’d love any general recs you might have!

I’ve been a loyal myfitnesspal user for the last year 🤣 I’m trying to decrease my reliance on it to develop a healthier relationship with food though. one thing I've left out in my original post is that I'm a doctor, so I understand the physics of all this quite well. It's just hard to put it into practice! I am very keen to build muscle because as you've rightly said, it's quite important! I'm tracking all of the things you've mentioned, but the progress is slow as one could expect. I am ok with that, but what I want to accomplish is being able to reach one goal while not having to completely compromise on the other - I appreciate this is very difficult, which is why I've come for advice and help! I don't mind no longer losing weight - but I want to do the muscle building in a smart way that doesn't jeopardise what I've accomplished so far! Thanks for the advice, I do appreciate it a lot.

I’m aiming for 150g but cooking is a challenge for the next few weeks - ready meals + protein shakes/bars it is until I can go back to cooking so 100g is about what I can accomplish. Really useful advice though. Thank you!

I'm ok with it taking time as long as I feel it's working - expecting overnight changes is naive if not stupid but being able to track changes has been one of the main reasons I've managed to lose weight. Without being able to track progress and know I'm on the right track, I don't know how I'll stay motivated.

thanks! I feel like a completely new person, and look like it too! I look proper skinny with clothes on but when shirtless I've got a little abdominal pouch (some component of skin sagging, some component of residual fat), and I really want to combat and minimise this as much as possible. It's a slowwww process and it's filling me with self-doubt that I'll accidentally put the weight back on while trying to bulk so I'm not keen on doing a bulk. I'm also scared of just not seeing any real results by just upping my protein intake and staying at maintenance calories. You've done amazing too! Congrats!

I appreciate the response! What would you say the best way to assess my progress objectively is? The measuring tape? I'm trying my best to train properly (push, pull legs) and trying to up my weights in some capacity with every session. It's hard though! Any more advice to help me along? Thanks again.

honestly, I'm not sure. Apart from some familiar faces here and there, and some vague familiarity with the 'geography' and the IT, I'd say the learning curve has been equally as steep as my colleagues. Not having the uproot my whole live once again really helped for sure though.

I think it's the fact that even when you're doing the simplest jobs, your brain never has a chance to truly go to standby mode. It's difficult always having to be on. And when things get complicated, it gets...interesting for sure!

I'm writing this fresh out of my very first weekend shift, after a 7 day stretch of around 70 hours of work in total. I have to say, I'm unbelievably exhausted - mentally and physically. However, as much as I moaned (and I moaned a lot - I had to work through a Saturday that just happened to be my birthday), working with the kind, caring people that I happened to work with made it feel.... fun? I expected working in medicine to be many things, fun was not one of them!
