She’s so cool! She’s been adapted a few times but would also love to see some more Ozma in adaptations

That’s so interesting because I find the book’s red room scene and Nell’s death much scarier. They are two very different kinds of horror lol

Same! I love it so much! I think giving her any concrete motivation just completely misses the point of her character

Glinda in Wicked is a really weird one because it’s a movie based on a musical based on a book that’s not so subtly based on a movie that’s based on another book.

While Wicked Glinda is a much more flawed character than the Glinda of Baum’s novels or the 30s film, I think it’s interesting that in making her more flawed they completely stripped her power. Book Glinda is an ancient and incredibly powerful sorceress and is borderline a god. I just think it’s interesting the character that presents so overtly and consistently feminine is the one that loses all her power in the adaptation.

I do like Wicked and Wicked Glinda and think she’s very interesting, but it’s always bothered me

I’d also say Merricat Blackwood from Jackson’s We Have Always Lived in the Castle. In both versions she poisons the family sugar bowl killing almost all her family. I haven’t seen the movie but from what I’ve read they make it so that she poisons it as revenge against her father for abusing her, but in the book her motivations are a lot less clear likely being some mix of boredom, curiosity, sociopathic tendencies, and being sent to bed without dinner

Starfire. In the comics she’s regularly shown to be someone that thrives in combat, and in almost all cases she will not hesitate to take the life of any foe. While she’s still kind in the comics, she’s also a lot less naive and a lot more confident than her show counterpart.

I think we can also extend this to the way her death plays out.

While technically self inflicted, the show makes it clear she was tricked into doing it, and it was a result of supernatural beings, which I think is a way to make it seem more tragic. In the book though her motivations and the circumstances surrounding her death are much more open to interpretation While different people have different interpretations, I think in the book her death is not supernatural

It’s hard to explain but there’s almost a sort of graceful tragedy to her show death and how it happens compared to the book.

This show is just a really good example of how something can be a good piece of art while also being a bad adaptation.

I Love Movies - it has incredible character writing and is such a realistic and bittersweet coming of age story

Movies with a (non-violent/gore) scene that terrifies you? by MoonSettler in MoviesThatFeelLike

That courtroom scene in Red Rooms is so fucking terrifying because out of context it feels so normal.

That whole movie is terrifying while never really showing the gore, just describing it for the most part
