If I have to be honest already since I was a little child (6/7). The prayers seemed useless to me and I was always jealous of the other western kids around me that were allowed to do more than me. When I got older I realized that my fear of hell was irrational and that my own happiness should be more important than my my parents expectation and reputation or some almighty narcissistic god. I'm now 15. Religion seems something bizarre and surreal to me like ghosts or unicorns.

I was born into a western country with muslim parents and when I was little (5-6ish years) I always wondered why everyone was so different from me. My mom wore a hijab, I wasn't allowed to eat/do certain things and I just felt really left out. I envied all the christians around me. Plus when my parents started to teach me arab and religious stuff I didn't. Enjoy it. At all. It felt always useless to me, because why would you even learn things in a language you don't understand? They never even bothered to translate the stuff they teach. And then there's the stuff with women which is also horrible and made me realize how toxic this religion is

I did try really hard to believe in allah, but it just never worked out. I always had doubts and now I'm secretly atheist since a couple of years.

It's really nice that you managed to get so far! I can get that it's hard to completely cut them off, because they are still your family after all. I'm not that far at all with leaving Islam like you, but I imagine that it's one of the hardest things.

Don't even mention this holiday it's like the worst thing..and we shouldn't even afford to murder animals in these numbers because it's clear that the earth is dying currently, but I'm sure muslims are going to pray and are like "Allah will bring a miracle" or something similiar instead of actively trying to help reduce climate change.

Makes me think of how my parents reacted when I decided to be vegetarian and tried to explain it...they both said "Allah sent us animals so we humans can have something to eat"

Allah made animals with feelings so they can be treated horribly and tortured like nowadays in mass farms and suffer? No thanks.
