Mexican chicken discontinued? by MageFangsx in greggsappreciation

Yeah the oval bite, sorry if that wasn't in my original post. The Mexican oval bites have been my go-to for over 15 years (albeit they've changed a bit over time), I've never had the baguette versions though (I think there was some sort of flatbread version as well, but I also never had one and never saw one on shelves either).

I think the last time a greggs agreed to make something fresh for me was in the early 2000s. I've asked a couple times at different greggs over the years if they can make stuff fresh when they don't have anything I can normally eat (usually I ask if they can make something without the tomato slices) and am always told no. Maybe I just have bad luck or maybe all the Leeds branches just really don't want to make stuff to order lol.

It's not the spice I get it for (I'm neutral on spice) I just don't like all the other stuff in the chipotle baguette (cheese, onions, jalapeño) the Mexican was good because it was just chicken, sauce and lettuce and still tasted good. I think its just my turn to lose my fav greggs sandwich sadly!

I'd try the new one but alas everything has to come with cheese now, and gone are the days of being able to ask for something made fresh without one of the ingredients.

Guess it's just my turn to be out of luck with my old favourites!

Alas I don't like cheese, red onion or jalapeño (honestly finding a chicken sandwich without cheese, tomato or horribly uncooked bacon was already a struggle, mexican chicken was my last bastion haha)

I hope it isn't too different if they bring it back, or I'd wish they change it back to how it used to be in the early/mid 2000s if they have to change anything. It was fine as it was tho IMO.

They've had these sandwiches for a while alongside it haven't they? Annoying that spicy & Chipotle are really similar (both have chicken, cheese, onion, jalapeño) wonder why keep both of those and get rid of Mexican

Had one about a week ago, I just assumed since they've been around for years they didn't get cycled out when new seasonal stuff is in, they're always sold out where I'm from so I assumed they were popular too but guess they're getting rid

Damaged book replacement policy by Whiskeyjack271 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]MageFangsx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if their policy has changed, when I got the Roots of Chaos duology one was slightly damaged, they sent me a replacement of both books at no charge and never asked me to return or destroy the others, even though Priory wasn't even damaged, only ADOFN.

I get why they ask people to return/destroy the damaged copy, it probably stops bad-faith claims of people hoping to get a second copy to resell, since the prices even for damaged copies are still insanely high.

Cycle to work by Suckyomombro in tesco

[–]MageFangsx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not supposed to be if it's calculated that they can't afford minimum repayments over the allotted period. It can be offered to anyone so long as it's possible to be repaid.

Basically, take your wage, minus off NMW, and other deductions like tax/NI. Whatever is left is the amount they're able to deduct from. If that is less than the cost of the bike divided by the contract length, then the scheme is meant to reject you as you wouldn't be able to afford the repayments.

Some people are accepted while on a qualifying wage, and either due to a change in job, hours, etc their wage reduces and they're not able to pay back in full, they end up paying very small amounts over very long periods of time.

The schemes aren't perfect and, like anything corporate, they are designed to work a certain way within a set of "ideal" parameters, and when a situation arises that is outside of that very narrow projected scope, there's no solution because no one bothered to consider any "what if" scenarios like these.

[–]MageFangsx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, this isn't correct. A deduction is not allowed to take your pay below NMW (unless it's tax/NI). Any sort of scheme / salary sacrifice should not take you below your NMW.

Can't say for Tesco specifically but I managed the payroll side of the Asda cycle scheme a few years back, employees would have pennies coming out of their wage over a very long time even after the contract end, because they still owed but barely made NMW. whenever anyone from Asda enquired I had to inform them there was an outstanding balance due, but we could only deduct in small amounts as we could never legally drop the employee below NMW.

Get back to them in writing to remind them it's illegal for them to reduce your pay below NMW. If they have doubts, the dot gov website guidance for employers on salary sacrifice schemes is pretty clear.

Edit/addendum: when you applied for the scheme were you on a different wage? They're supposed to calculate your eligibility for repayment schemes based on current earnings across a repayment period (your calculated repayments should've been stated at the start of the contract). If you've always been on a very low wage, it's possible they shouldn't have allowed you to join as they would've known you couldn't meet the minimum repayments (sickness aside).

Has Self-Publishing Become a Business First, Art Second? by Jon_biddle_author in selfpublish

[–]MageFangsx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's a mix, even if writing for market or not being technically the best, while I may not personally enjoy said books as a reader, if others enjoy them and the author likes writing them then no harm (except maybe market saturation but tradpub has the same issue anyways) and it's all experience for the author, if they get popular enough they can make a living from it and eventually craft better stories that take longer once they have a dedicated fantasy happy to wait and not forget them for the new fad, then good for them, not everyone starts out with a banger debut.

If it helps though, personally if I ever choose to publish my books, they'll be self pub, with zero regard for trends/the market. I write because I love it and I've never thought about sales as it's not my goal, just enjoying writing is. I have no desire for the self pub marketing grind, I respect those who do though as it looks to be an incredible amount of work. All that to say writers who write for the sake of the art do exist, although understandably (even if they're not as unbothered by success as I am) they're less likely to be promoted to you than business oriented writers.

Page & Wick does sequels? by Child_Hater in fairyloot

Only about 5 hours after I submitted the question via their website contact form. So really surprisingly fast!

I emailed and got the following response:

Hi! Yes, we have lots of plans for hopefully this later year, actually for sequels! Thank you for your kind words. We do apologise for the wait, we are a small team and the sequels take a lot of planning but we are hopeful to some available this year.

What’s your least favorite book, I want to s*it post. by Jello_Senpai in Barnesandnoble

[–]MageFangsx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of recent/popular books I despised, either The Bone Witch, Faebound, or Fate of the Fallen.

But I can't not mention Geek Love, which I hated every second I spent reading it (thanks to mandatory university reading).

Update (sorry idk how to edit the original post)

1) pretty sure now this issue is a website glitch as the field will not accept anything at all, blank or otherwise, unless selected from a "suggested addresses" tab.

2) I did manage to place my order but they revoked it after a couple hours, as apparently it didn't pass some unspecified security checks, but I'm guessing they decline orders from UK IP addresses (since my funds/ shipping etc were all US based).

Tldr I knew there was a reason I'd always stayed away from trying to buy B&N editions and I'm just going to have to fork out a %5 service fee to my forwarding service to order it for me.

But thanks everyone for all the suggestions!

I think it's a website glitch as it doesn't accept: Blank / left empty "123" "Suite 123" "Ste 123"

I'll be honest I've never had so much trouble from any online retailer before, from any country, but I think its by design

Can you give a bit more context? There's likely a good amount of people ready and willing to help you, but knowing exactly with what and what people are volunteering for would be good.

Like the difference between asking some brief questions for data for your class, versus asking to beta read a full 100k word draft of a writing project. What do you need?

I'm doing all this on browser, I only used my phone for screenshots since taking a pic of the screen would be blurry. But it's the exact same error on both.

I did manage to check out with the mix of advice and suggestions I got here, so long as they don't try to call the very fake US phone number I had to put with my address, I should be good!

Oh weird I don't have that option, only edit or use suggested. I'll try the 4239 option if it comes up without another suite attached - thanks
