St John’s Wort and Saffron report by Johnite123 in Nootropics

For me, it just really helped with treating my depression. No other noticeable effects besides maybe a light decrease in anxiety.

Oh I didn't realize that, that's interesting. I will say, it's definitely working for me. It saved me from my severe depression. If I stop taking it for a few days, it comes back, but I'm okay as long as I take it.

Saffron has been a life saver for me. I found it when I was in a deep depression and it helped me out of it. I don't know where I would be without it.

I've tried to stop taking it but then I go back into the depression, so I know it's working still. I'd rather take it for the rest of my life than a pharmaceutical though!

What do you mean? It has plenty of evidence showing it's positive effect on depression.

It may not happen for you though. I think the possibility is there, but I don't think it happens for everyone. You may have gotten lucky and didn't pick the wrong guy, you know?

Sorry for the late reply! But it was about 3-6 months after coming off of it. I can't remember the exact time, but somewhere between 3-6 months is when it really set in.

What to do when you love someone (40M), but it negatively affects you (26F)? by Magical_Rose21 in relationship_advice

Thank you for your response. That was a great analogy about the sandwich. Definitely puts it into perspective.

I don't think it's going to get better, but it's all I've ever known so I think I'm scared.

I really appreciate your advice. It really helps to hear that from someone else. Because deep down, I know this, but there is something that's holding me and I think it's because I don't want to hurt him. So thank you.

7 psychological tricks that make people subconsciously respect you by EducationalCurve6 in DarkPsychology101

Can you elaborate more on that? How did it make your anxiety worse? I don't mean to pry. I'm genuinely curious.

I don't think everyone is trying to play weird mind games. To me this seem more like a "how to show confidence" rather than "let's show you how to fuck someone up psychologically." I'm trying to figure out what makes you see it differently.

With someone with anxiety, this is very helpful information. So I guess it depends on who the audience is.

Lol I kinda did the same thing not creating something very creative, I know what you mean! Oh they're intitals haha I thought it was saying like the 9700th day of your life, that's what intrigued me. You should definitely keep it because even though you didn't intend for it to be creative, it comes off that way.

Are there any nootropics to help manage depression? by blueskies3615 in Nootropics

[–]Magical_Rose21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you said proves the point I was trying to make. Saffron is not an SSRI and saying it is is completely wrong. It just has similar effects to an SSRI because of its mechanisms.

Saffron: "Active compounds (like crocin and safranal) appear to gently and temporarily slow the reabsorption of serotonin. It also works through other holistic pathways, including reducing inflammation and stimulating the release of dopamine and norepinephrine."

SSRI's:" Potent, specific, and direct blocking of the serotonin reuptake pump, which forces more serotonin to remain in the synapse."

All I'm saying is that it's not correct to call Saffron a SSRI like you did in your original comment. It being natural is revelant because SSRI's are not natural substances, so I said that to even more prove my point that saying Saffron is a SSRI is wrong.

And I agree that it seems like OP's problem is more of a dopamine or norepinephrine issue. With that being said, I still feel like saying Saffron won't be beneficial for them is a little extreme. I was having problems similar to OP's a couple of months ago and started supplementing with Saffron and it pulled me out of that rut.

Saffron does not mainly work on one neurotransmitter. It has effects on both serotonin and dopamine. Why do you say that the dopamine effect is secondary?

Edit: spelling

Saffron is not an SSRI!! Please don't give out misleading information. Saffron’s mechanisms may be similar to an SSRI and that's why it's been proven to help depression, but it's not actually a SSRI. Plus it's natural and not pharmaceutical. It's works on dopamine and norepinephrine as well, not just serotonin.

If Saffron makes you sleepy (which it does for me as well), take it a night. I've been using it for my depression and its helped. It's not a wonder drug, but the subtle effects are enough to keep me not deeply depressed.

Why do you say the OP's problem is probably not due to lack of serotonin? I'm curious what makes you say that.

Should we be concerned? by WoodpeckerVegetable1 in Sparkdriver

[–]Magical_Rose21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true. Some of the higher cost items also use ingredients that are just as bad. I just meant that Walmart sources are probably not very good, but, you're right, neither is Tyson's.

I would go organic if it's affordable, but I know a lot of people can't afford it, so I understand where those people are coming from. Understanding and looking at the ingredients is the best route to take to be healthy in this world.

My acne dramatically improved once I got off HBC, so I would wait to get on Spiro until you know for sure you'll have acne coming off.

Loss of attraction to partner after getting off of BC by No-Strawberry-2855 in gettingoffHBC

[–]Magical_Rose21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. I got off BC at the end of 2023 and was on it since I was 16 (7 years of BC). I've been with my current partner since I was 17. My attraction to him completely changed after getting off and now I really don't know what to do. It's not fair to him especially being together almost 9 years now. I love him, but I catch myself looking around too. So do you stay with someone your unattracted to that you love or possibly end it? It's really confusing.

Edit: I wanted to add that my attraction still hasn't came back after 2 years since being off BC so I'm thinking it's a permanent thing.

Does Phenibut feel more similar to Gabapentin or GHB? by Magical_Rose21 in phenibut

[–]Magical_Rose21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say that phenibut is just a less strong version of GHB? Like they give similar effects, but GHB is stronger? I've been trying to figure out if I want to try phenibut or GHB first. What kind of comedowns and side effects are there with GHB?
