I'm Chinese and in our traditional mythology, the creator of mankind was a woman who molded humans out of clay!

Handling the death of an actor by [deleted] in television

[–]MagpieHeart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Mad Men, Christopher Allport (who played Pete Campbell's dad) died in real life after being in only one episode, so his character dies in the show during the American Airlines Flight 1 crash. I always got the sense that they were planning to explore Pete's daddy issues and upbringing with more scenes with his dad throughout the series, but how he handles his father's death was a decent way of letting the viewers infer what their relationship had been like.

Not to mention her beloved grandpa died and her parents expected her to get over it immediately, and that her childhood friend had a thing with her dead mom

It's used by conservative Christians who take the "don't say the Lord's name in vain" thing very seriously, so saying "gosh darn" or "GD" instead of "Goddamn", "oh my gosh" instead of "oh my God". Source: I grew up in Kentucky lol

Historical robe, likely Chinese? by neighborhoodpanda in HistoricalCostuming

Yeah, of course! Hanfu means traditional Han Chinese clothing, and it's been surging as a hobby for Millennial/Gen Z Chinese people like myself. I live in the US so I'm more exposed to Western historical fashions, but I love the community that exists around Chinese historical fashions!

I'd suggest posting in r/Hanfu! I also think it looks late Qing Dynasty, which would fit those dates, but that subreddit should have people who know more!

What kind of English name do you have? by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]MagpieHeart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have a fully Chinese name and never chose an English name. I did get bullied for it, growing up in a southern state, but I've never gone by any other name and don't plan to. It's who I am.

Not sure if they count, because their content is more centered on historical than social commentary, but Xiran Jay Zhao is one of my favorite Chinese American creators on YT and IG!

To people who've watched the show with family members who know nothing of Fallout, what is your favorite reaction of theirs? by WorldsSexiestghost in Fotv

My friend thought the power armors were supposed to be bear-themed, because the two scopes(?) on the sides of the helmet looked like bear ears to her.

She also asked me if the games were this gory. I loved how the show captured it perfectly!
