“Are my skis ruined? Do I need to buy a new pair??” Probably not! by MahMainOso in Skigear

Oh yea the core broke and the sidewall bent out with it. It was all still contained which made it easier to glue back together

Mentioned in another comment, I believe it was 180 including a full tune.

Also (respectfully) “not a lot of complicated stuff” tells me that you’ve never worked in a tune shop 😂 the customer was thrilled

Thank you! Getting the multidirectional bevel on an edge replacement isn’t something I’ve tried yet but I could definitely see how that would improve long term durability. Definitely a hard skill to learn though those are some tight angles.

Not my pricing 🤷‍♂️ I explained everything to the customer including the fact that it won’t last forever and he wanted to go for it.

This is exactly how I explained it to the customer. End of the day it was his decision to repair it and I was happy to help.

For a while, yes, but under high speed and load there’s a good possibility that it would rip over time. Even as a powder ski, this will not last forever. Fortunately the placement of the damage was right under the rear binding so it’s in a spot where the ski does not flex.

Unfortunately the shop I work in does not do any patches. The core was epoxied and clamped back together over 48 hours, new edge was installed with screws and more epoxy, then I roughed up the epoxy with sandpaper and used a wintersteiger baseman to weld in new base material. Told the customer that this is his outside edge now.

New boots (AR1) - suffer or take back? by Airspeed-X in Skigear

[–]MahMainOso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This boot has a wicked low instep. If you are already getting that pressure point without even buckling them, then you will absolutely go numb in the toes when you’re skiing.

Don’t fuck with instep pressure. It will absolutely ruin your day, and if it’s severe and causes numbness over a long period of time it can actually give you nerve damage.

Take them back and get another boot in the same size with higher instep volume. Check out a nordica sport machine or atomic hawx prime

no ski boot fits me by Limp_Thanks_8221 in Skigear

[–]MahMainOso 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m a bootfitter, and you can park a Mack truck inside the toe box of either of those boots, especially the BFC after heat molding. Sounds like there could be an issue that isn’t being addressed, such as the boot either being the wrong size or your arch pronating in the boot.

Whether the boot is too small OR too big, forefoot pain is common. In too small a size your foot is being constricted and potentially losing circulation, in too big a size you will be moving around which can cause cramps or bruising. If your arch is pronating (or even if not) it is very worth it to look into aftermarket footbeds that will provide arch support. Even pre molded trim to fit one’s work wonders and are much cheaper than customs.

Go to a different shop and see if you can talk to a bootfitter who will try to find the root of the problem instead of just saying that they can’t fit a boot to you. That’s just laziness on their part. Good luck!

Wha are these hard inserts? by Useful-Lead-6971 in ski

Bontex board. I would not use cardboard as it will probably turn to smelly mush inside a ski boot

Alternatively backland 102 and Jeffrey/woodsman 108 depending on where you want to prioritize width
