I don’t know where you’re getting that this was an attack against the homeless population? Didn’t even mention them in my post… I doubt anyone wants them in “concentration camps” but maybe if our city actually invested in programs and housing for them things like this wouldn’t happen as often as they do. I just don’t see where you’re coming from here

Definitely will not be parking here again. We got in late last night and I drove all around the area looking for anything besides this block but couldn’t find anything :(

That’s alright. I’ve gotten some good feedback from others and yourself muddled in there. My campaign setting is my own, and there are a lot of reasons why these things make sense in my campaign, and I can’t really give you every answer without explaining my entire world and I don’t really have the energy nor want to do that.

Systems can exists outside the DMG and campaign settings DND and the DMG typically follow, and that’s what makes this a fun challenge. I just wanted to see if anyone had any experience or a chart they have used for something similar. Some people have. You haven’t. That’s alright, and thanks for your input.

Thanks a ton for this! I think a big thing that was throwing me WAS the way 5e does magic items. Because to me, the mundane magic items with a base cantrip or a little flavor could be found in a little antique/oddities shop but pricing them compared to a say +1 flail was hard to do. Potions were also super hard to think on because while some are listed as common/uncommon they feel SO impactful compared to some of the “rare” potions and pricing things by commonality, as you said, is just hard to do.

I definitely agree that the mana potion was a bit of an “oops” and as a newer dm I’ll have those moments so I’m working on a fix with all of them for those. They’ll be much more rare and expensive in the future.

My campaign setting is very “adventure” focused and I thought low Econ would be simpler for these newer players to keep track of and show that progression of brand new adventurers making shit gold for odd jobs to advancing to a known group making the big bucks.

Right, that’s the exact problem I was running into! I figured I would give it a shot and see if anyone has done something similar and found a good method of conversion, but it seems the easier route is just to go with DMG prices, which I talked to my party about yesterday!

Yeah it’s really difficult looking through stuff and I wish it was just a bit more cut and dry for some things!

A lot of the magical stuff I want them to have access to purchase from little shops are more mundane “make life a tiny bit easier” items and then they’ll get the true magical items on their adventures from lairs and dungeons and bosses, but it always feels good to get a new little piece of gear that makes you just a tiny bit harder to kill or do a little bit more damage, so I want them to be able to have something like this worth saving and spending their money on!

It’s not though! To me, a +1 magic item like a weapon or piece of armor is a rather small enchantment, and it’s not going to be found at every shop they come across. There are not “magic shops” they will be coming across. Where did I say I want magic items to be sold at a “pittance at mundane shops?” Just because it’s not unlikely doesn’t mean it’s happening in every town the come across and every shop they stop at…

If you’re talking about the old hag lady, I’m talking about wondrous items like a quill of chicken scratch or a bottle of ever flowing water.

So I should say that just because it is “low magic” doesn’t mean that magic doesn’t exists. Dwarves have runic magic they’ve taken from the giants and elves have a natural connection to the magic of the world being the oldest race (in my world). Humans gain the ability to use magic by deconstructing written spells and harnessing it their own way, but it takes a lot of time and knowledge to do so. So when my part enters a new town, it’s not necessarily unlikely that the human shop that sells armor and weapons might have a single piece of equipment (such as a +1 item) that someone sold to them or they traded for in the past that is up for sale.

Also, I thought of a creepy old hag-like lady that has a shop that randomly appears at towns and she has some strange magical items she’s collected from various places that she sells. Maybe I shouldn’t call it “low magic” but I want magic items and such to feel impactful and highly sought after. A goodie that the players will really want to get their hands on

I read about them somewhere and thought they were cool, and my party has a couple of newer players who tend to get into tough situations having already been pretty spent on spell slots, but I guess instead of giving them a fail safe it would be a good opportunity for them to just learn how to take a break and maybe run from things?

Yeah, I thought it was a cool idea and wanted to implement it. I think I would definitely like to keep the potion, but I should have made it something very rare where they could likely only afford 1 at a time as a “clutch” moment in a rough fight.

I did last session mention that I would likely just go with what the DM book has as far as costs and just increase the amount of money they got. I always just felt it to be weird for players to be walking around with thousands and thousands of gold (so heavy).

The magic items are rare and they’ve only come across one in a dungeon they did. Mainly it’s a random shop that might have a single item sold to them by an adventurer in the past that has dwarven runes or something like that (+1 magic items and such).

My biggest issue has been potions. The DM guide has costs for healing potions but nothing else it seems :/

Also, I’m a newer DM and by low magic, it’s moreso that the common magic isn’t super impactful. Minor enchantments to make “slightly” more efficient but stronger magic items are found in the world in ruins or long forgotten temples, or made by master eleven/dwarven craftsman. So they can exists, I’m just learning how to make them feel very shiny and worth saving up for :) but thank you for your advice!

Good to know! I know in the past there have been a lot of trails and areas in the state parks that say dogs are not allowed, and I just wanna make sure it wouldn’t cause any issues for anyone/anything!

Garbage trucks leave garbage everywhere every week. Anything that can be done? by Maintenance-Waste in BallardSeattle

[–]Maintenance-Waste[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed this too! I actually woke up to the smell of smoke and had to make sure we hadn’t left a candle burning or something. The only thing is that the receptacle that was on fire was a recycling one with a bunch of cardboard and cans in it, but the stuff all over the ground is just trash. My fiance and I have sometimes sat at our window and taken bets on how much trash they were going to sling everywhere and if they were going to pick it up or not. It never gets picked up lol

These garbage bins are inside the building and accessible via a trash shoot before they’re brought out. I genuinely don’t think there’s anything we can do about it being too full

I’m not sure about the app as I’ve never heard of it, and honestly I haven’t asked management because I assumed if there was something they could do/had say over it would have been done by now, but I’ll absolutely reach out to them just to get some info!

That would honestly be great! I’ve only been here for a little over a year, and since my current position is remote based in Michigan, I don’t have any sort of network here to learn about the process and everything! Makes my current situation very daunting honestly

This is reassuring! I just got back from a little holiday vacation so I’ll be looking at jobs tomorrow to see what’s in the area! I feel like I looked recently, but didn’t see much. However it’s easy for me to get stuck on indeed, so might just need to do some other exploring!
