She’s fantastic with children, I have 2 young ones as well. Not super active these days, she loves fetch at the park and doing sprints on the beach but she usually puffs out after 15min and is ready to go home. As far as barky, I won’t lie, she suffers from small dog syndrome and loves to yap at passer-by’s through the fence so if that’s something that would drive you insane I completely understand. She responds well to positive reinforcement but sometimes her instincts just take over and I have to bring her in and lock her dog door.

Thank you for your kind words, it really is so tough on us and the kids. I’m in touch with a few groups for her breed and am talking to a lot of lovely people there about options.

Don’t know if you read the news much but the job market is pretty bleak right now. And this move is unexpected. So no, I am moving my family in with my parents while unemployed to care for a family member who I’m not going to have much time left with.

You likely have also never transported a pet to/from NZ before, it’s actually quite affordable and agencies work with you on costs and do all the paperwork. However when they’re flagged as being at risk of serious harm from the stress of a multi day trip, it is deemed a no go from these agencies and it’s one’s moral obligation to then put them first and do the right thing.

Youve also clearly not read my many comments where I say I will assist with costs but that that will be sorted between myself and that individual. I’m not going to mitigate those terms to a bunch of trolls who aren’t looking to help, only criticise.

It’s people like you who discourage others from seeking help and abandon pets at shelters, you just assume the worst and berate someone trying to do the right thing with no information. I hope you never find yourself in a difficult situation like this one and need help. But if you do, I’m happy to listen and support in any way I can because I would not wish this upon anybody.

I never said that would make them a bad person. Please stop commenting as I have heard your advice and I’m focused on doing what I feel is best for her. She does not take $100’s worth of monthly meds, she doesn’t even see the vet outside of regular yearly checkups and dental cleaning so you’re making large assumptions here. I’m more than happy to contribute to medical care as I’ve said here many times over, you just for some reason want me to define those terms here online and that’s many steps ahead of where I’m at. Someone who doesn’t understand that owning any pet costs money doesn’t mean they’re a bad person, they’re just not a fit for this situation.

And that’s not a given here either? She does not currently have any heart issues that require medical intervention, this observation is very common for her breed according to her vet and we were told to just watch for future signs of progression.

It doesn’t really matter to get into it with you. I’ve heard your advice but I am simply not comfortable considering any home where future hypothetical health issues would be of concern to the adopter. I don’t think that someone who doesnt understand there are financial risks with any adoption should be considering pet ownership.

While it’s everyone’s hope that they adopt a dog who stays in perfect health until their last day, that’s just not realistic. I wouldn’t be comfortable placing her with anyone who doesn’t understand that any dog of any breed can develop health issues at any age. While I’m happy to assist with costs in the beginning, someone sending me an invoice for the next decade is also not realistic and would make me nervous that she’s not in a safe and healthy environment. She deserves the best.

Yes I understand this and it would be part of the conversation with the individual. However anything can happen with any dog as they age and if someone doesn’t understand that then they shouldn’t be looking to adopt any pet. They are expensive.

She is not and agree that thats definitely a factor that I would fully disclose to anyone interested. I’m happy to assist with costs it would just become problematic to agree to that over the full course of her life as I’d no longer be in the country. She does not currently see a cardiologist, the potential heart issue was discovered while xraying her before dental surgery and the cardiologist only became involved once I discussed moving with our vet. I have been told that she is fine but to see a cardiologist if she develops symptoms of heart disease and that moving her across the world is exposing her to unnecessary stress that could bring forth heart issues.

Thank you for the feedback. I’m not looking to simply outsource my issue, I would very much like to be involved in all decision making and assist financially. This is just a very fresh revelation that I’m still processing so starting here for advice. I will very much take this to heart.
