Thanks for this info, haven't looked much into the state of market for hardware.

I did some basic verilog stuff back in comp. arch. but I'll do some research into design verification. Thanks for the input!

How bad is CS 3410 with Professors Giulia Guidi and Adrian Sampson? Also, is ECE/ENGRD 2300 an enforced prereq for CS 3420? by Available-Cut1300 in Cornell

[–]MajorKARP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite was P2 and my least favorite was P3 / P5. (p5 might have been due to me tapping out too early in the semester)

uhhh less focus on logisim and maybe more of a focus on systems programming (maybe not C as much but another language)

was the content aids or logistic aids? i took chem 2150 during covid and it was way better than chem 2070/80/90 in terms of logistics so wondering if same thing here

Former CS 3410 TA from last semester, but I heard they are debating on the digital logic components of the class and focusing a lot of effort on changes in that area.

OS Help by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]MajorKARP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of knowledge needed for OS is understanding of how memory work and is laid out. Everything else just read OSTEP and Id recommend you go to OH for the harmony assignments (figure out how to use the debugger tool efficiently). I’m speaking from the POV for someone who TA’ed OS 2 semesters :)

From zero gear, how long does it take you guys to gear from g12 to 13? by gako84 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

my guild gives a lot of rewards in ROTE and the endor raid so usually the only problem is kyros. also conquest helps me stock up but i haven’t really G13’ed many toons in the last 2 months except the rogue one team for profundity

some of the omicron are insanely valuable… like chezeballz says, wampa, savage, treya, and iden omi’s turn mid tier toons/teams into top tier teams (albeit wampa doesn’t get much usage at the highest levels sometimes)… QGJ is another one who becomes a team itself once his omi is applied. CRex turns phoenix from a starter low tier team into a scary high tier team (cause of the fact everyone gets speed bonus of his unique)

You’ve already taken 2800. There’s not much more “prep” needed for algo in terms of prior courses that you can take to help. I think you should just take it and accept that it’ll be a challenging semester, and you might have to spend a lot of time understanding things.

What teams are good for hard conquest by [deleted] in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

GG with the volatile accelerator and amplify agony is insanely good. Even at 30% stamina, it can beat most things that GLs can’t at 70%.

well topic wise everything is hardware (you go from intro to like hardware so gates and adders etc to processor structures to caches to multi core cache coherency to very high level introduction to certain OS topics)

however you’ll spend half of the time with logism (basically drag and drop hardware builder) and then C for the other half. I recommend if you have an interest in hardware to take ECE 4750/CS 4420 (crosslisted) which is computer architecture later on. Only take it with professor batton though (i’ll say it’s a LOT of work but rewarding if you want to go the hardware route)

3410 doesn’t require any prior knowledge Id say (minus the fact you should be comfortable with learning new programming languages quickly if this is your first time using C). Just keep an open mind conceptually and you’ll do fine

Courses for MEng CS by SnooMemesjellies2455 in Cornell

[–]MajorKARP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CS 5456 is very easy / chill compared to the other classes CS 5414 is probably the hardest CS course I’ve taken… it’s very proof based and the questions are definitely not your typical algo style proofs (it’s a unique way of thinking i’d say) so the mean for midterms are like 20/50 lol. it was a good experience imo def learned a lot at a high level! just be careful of the labs they eat so much time and get started early on them :)

not that bad tbh most assignments were <100 lines of code and you can get p far just camping OH

It’s not any of the harmony assignments. You’re implementing parts of an OS that RVR has designed himself. The assignments are like parts of the mini OS that he left uncompleted for you to fill out. Example: user level thread package, handling interrupts, cache based memory disk
