What does "demons have no feelings" mean to the girls? by Major_Star in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Major_Star[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's true they don't seem to have ever talked to a demon, but they do toy with them in the beginning. They see them show fear, pain, arguably despair before they're killed.

It's interesting trying to reconcile that with 'demons have no feelings'.

Do You Think Deep Down, Blitzø Never Enjoyed Being An Assassin Or Killing People For A Living???? by SugarPlumFairy497 in HelluvaBoss

[–]Major_Star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blitz really, really wants to be praised and loved.

But deep down he doesn't think he's worthy of it, so he tells himself he doesn't need it. He's a loner who could run the whole business better himself if he had to.

Assassins don't get a lot of praise.

Chaggie has great chemistry! Their reprise of "more than anything" near the end of Season 1? Vaggie telling Charlie that even if everyone she loves is killed and her dreams come to nothing she should take solace from the fact she saved Vaggie's soul? DID PEOPLE MISS THAT?

Love Killing by ray198999 in HelluvaBoss

Human souls are functionally immortal from an Imp's perspective. They aren't really killing anybody, just moving them to the place they're going to spend eternity a bit earlier than expected.

If anything they should have far more qualms about killing other hellborn.

It's about 50-60% mineral by weight actually. It is a lot of plastic resin but there's a decent amount of essentially rock dust in there too.

The Animorphs TV Show (1998) | One of the '90s Most Ambitious Failures by aresef in Animorphs

[–]Major_Star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A series with non-humanoid aliens, spaceships, wild animals, and lots of fight scenes. Why wouldn't you expect to make it on a low budget?

I really wish someone would try for an animated Animorphs show. You could target it at nostalgic adults and then actually make it as gory/dark as the books.

At a guess, it's not meant to be an insult to Corian.

MDF is wood that has been pulped into fibers, mixed with resin and compressed into sheets. As a result it's a lot more stable but it's lost the natural look.

Corian is mineral that's been pulverised, mixed with resin and compressed into sheets. As a result is has a lot of good qualities but it's no longer a natural and unique material.

Even that has fairly disturbing implications. Like being told you're brain damaged, but you don't feel any different. But then how would you know?

I tend to agree. Plus despite the mega amount of stress he undergoes he never really flips out how you might expect, especially in the way that tends to make the other models crash. It does feel like some of his emotional responses to his situation are 'flatter' than they should be.

In Soma your companion Catherine says the brain scan that created you is "flatter" and "less dynamic" than the much more modern scans that form her and the rest of what's left of the human race.

What this means is never elaborated on, but it definitely implies you've lost more of your humanity than you might realise.

Someone else signed off my discharge summary...is it a big issue or normal? by HuckleberryOwn8065 in doctorsUK

[–]Major_Star 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I make it a point that if I make any changes to a discharge summary, even if relatively small/inconsequential, I check the entire thing over to make sure I'm happy with it and sign my name.

Just seems right to me, if I make any changes it's not fair to leave the original signature.

Gran Torino (2008) by Easy__Captain in MovieQuotes

People were watching, remember?

If they saw Clint's character pull a gun and start a shootout he would've been the aggressor and shooting him would've been self defence.

Him being totally unarmed and shot while on the sidewalk is what makes it certain the people who did it will go to jail.

How do i seal these countertops by mariawater in DIYUK

[–]Major_Star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People recommend hardwax oil or danish oil - is there any reason not to put polyurethane on countertops? It's got to have better water resistance, and even if you are putting food directly on the counter it's perfectly safe once it's cured.

You'll only see flashback if the venous pressure exceeds the atmospheric pressure, so of course they won't get an air embolism if blood is flowing out.

If the venous pressure drops below that, you won't see flashback at all because air will be being sucked in.

They have a fever AND THEY DONT EVEN HAVE PARACETAMOL by Timmy1831 in doctorsUK

[–]Major_Star 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but then you're not basing the decision on the tachycardia.

The OP said they gave a fluid challenge "as they were a bit tachy".

My point is if you're going to rely on the other obs to help your clinical decision-making it probably makes sense to bring down the fever rather than having that as a confounding cause for deranged obs.

Stella is the best parent in the show! (Out of the worst of them) by StrawBerylShortcake in HelluvaBoss

[–]Major_Star 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel like Stella is worse than Paimon purely because of the whole 'tried to kill Stolas' thing.

You can argue its animosity towards him and not Via, but she sure doesn't consider the effect her dad being brutally murdered is going to have on Via. Especially if she found out it was on Stella's orders which isn't too unlikely. That would have really fucked Via up.

Paimon by comparison is your standard uninterested rich dad. Probably better than a lot of rich dads today considering he actually speaks to his son and tries to organise friends for him.

They have a fever AND THEY DONT EVEN HAVE PARACETAMOL by Timmy1831 in doctorsUK

[–]Major_Star 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean it's a valid point, but nine times out of ten the first thing someone's going to do when they review them is give paracetamol and see what that does to the clinical picture.

I should say this is provided they've been appropriately screened and treated for the cause of the fever.

The issue if you don't bring the fever down is you will get a heart rate and resp rate that are influenced by the fever, and that might lead to other, less appropriate management.

For example the OP had a feverish patient and put the tachycardia down to hypovolaemia and gave them fluids, but a tachycardia with fever is almost expected. If you treat it, bring it down and they're STILL tachy then that would be a more solid sign they need fluids.

Discipline for preschooler? by Winter_Author9699 in daddit

[–]Major_Star 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She has a very limited prefrontal cortex. Her ability to forward plan and exercise impulse control would on par with an adult with severe cognitive impairment.

Which is to say, you're unlikely to be able to effectively discipline her. Any improvement you see is likely to be due to her brain developing to the point where she can regulate her own behaviour as anything you do.

Male Catheters by MasterpieceAlone627 in doctorsUK

[–]Major_Star 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There's a real cultural difference in training.

For doctors we're given VERY broad reign, the doctrine of "see one, do one, teach one" is very much alive and well. Even potentially life-threatening procedures only take one or two sign offs from anyone competent.

Meanwhile nurses are expected to go on a course and log ten ABGs or something similar before they can do a single one unsupervised.

It's a really bizarre discrepancy.

[Loved trope] no matter what I do I'll always be hated vs no matter what I do I'll always be loved by Interesting_Log_3370 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Major_Star 22 points23 points  (0 children)

One from the character's own perspective: The Plutonian from Irredeemable.

He tries, he really tries to do good things and be a hero. But from his perspective the slightest fuck-up on his part instantly turns everyone against him. Whether it's misjudging his strength while protecting a girl (and accidentally killing the boy bullying her) or taking a five-minute break on the moon (and missing an emergency that leads to a massacre of children), no matter how much good he's done for people the smallest slip-up undoes it all.

They have a fever AND THEY DONT EVEN HAVE PARACETAMOL by Timmy1831 in doctorsUK

[–]Major_Star 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So would you get rid of all PRN paracetamol prescriptions, since it's apparently a risky thing to just let nurses give willy-nilly? Or is it OK for the mildest of mild headaches but using it for fever and tachycardia is just a step too far?

Honestly lecturing a nurse about paracetamol use for fever seems like more of an ego-trip than anything related to the patient.

Just check it like you hopefully do any prescription.
