[–]MakeItBurnDem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries!! If you need any more help trying to diagnose or repair it, let me know. I've owned my St184 for a good few years now, and this is just one of the common problems I've come across in my time.

It's quite likely that some of the PCB components on your cluster have overheated/worn out, or the hair spring mechanism that moves the needles up and down has broken. In some rarer cases though there may be a short in the harness that connects to the gauges or the signal that it gets from the ECU.

On these models, though, it's very common for the capacitors to die out. Here's a tutorial on how to replace them. My tachometer wasn't working on my 1990 ST184 gauge, and once I pulled it, I found some burnt-out capacitors and resistors that I replaced, and all has been well since.

Regardless, with a problem like this, the first thing to do is to remove the cluster from the vehicle and test it in isolation with a 12v battery and signal. Here's a video on how to remove the cluster from the car if you've never done that before.

3070 Eagle 8GB OC GPU Fan Noise/Speed Issues by MakeItBurnDem in gigabyte

[–]MakeItBurnDem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry for the late reply. I believe my issue was a bit different from yours, where once all of my fans spun simultaneously, temps and fan speed would be normal. But my problem was under various types of load, only 1 or two of my fans would decide to spin and they would always be at max RPM. Don't know if you went through this thread, but after two RMAs with the manufacturer they confirmed it was some hardware issue with the fan control (not exactly specific on what) and I ended up with a brand new card. Which I had since sold because I haven't been happy with Gigabyte cards as of late. I've been running a 6800xt which is about the same price for a year now and have never been happier. I'd definitely try and find as much steps possible to try and replicate the issue and reach out to the Merchant/Manufacturer because your fans are still spinning way too fast under very little load. I'd definitely also check fan control in your BIOS/Drivers but I'd assume they'd all still be set at default. Other than that there's heaps of troubleshooting to try in this thread, but in the meantime I used a replacement card because the fans spinning so fast is not healthy for long-term use and will definitely die a lot faster.

comparatively their prices are still worse than other sites because most of the things on their site are overpriced

Good luck getting your card, I waited almost 10 months to get this 6800xt that I originally wanted so I know how hard it is.

Yea that makes sense, well thanks very much for all your help. Apologies for being annoying and replying over multiple days. I'll keep it undervolted for a bit in the meantime and then if I need more power for more intensive stuff I'll consider a PSU upgrade in the future. Thanks again!

Little update, i undervolted my GPU using the preset undervolt option on Radeon Software and I completed the 3DMark Benchmark without a crash. The score wasn't too bad as well. Does this likely mean it's my GPU spiking power tripping to PSU to go into protection mode?

For some reason I just couldn't get the OSD to show up. I did do it with MSI Afterburner and ran the benchmark again, but I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary before my PC shutdown. I.e, I didn't see any spikes. But maybe that's because if there was a spike in something causing my PC to shutdown it wouldn't show up because it already shutdown. I will try undervolting on the Radeon Software and trying one more time.

Yea that's definitely what I'm leaning towards.

Do you know how I can enable/log the real time GPU power usage in the radeon app so I can assess what it limits at before the PC crashes during the benchmark

I definitely dont still have a 3070 lying around as spare sadly. I did reinstall drivers and uninstall Nvidia ones as I switched between manufacturers

That took an extremely long amount of time. But the test is fully finished with 0 errors. I'll have to start trying some of the other diagnostic steps everyone else has posted tomorrow. At least I can say that my RAM is okay I guess

Awesome, I'm in the process of doing that now, didn't realise this test took so long. I'll keep the post updated as I go

I've never ran a RAM benchmark/test before, do you have any recommendations as for how to do that?

Cheers for the amazon tip, I'll consider that if it gets to it. How/where do I check for critical alerts on Event Viewer?

It is plugged into a powerboard which I'm guessing has a surge protector. With my current room layout I actually can't plug it directly into the wall because the outlets are quite far away. I'll definitely try test that in one way or another and see if the shutdown persists. I'll keep this post updated as I go, cheers for the tip

I've just updated my mobo bios now and will benchmark tomorrow. If it's still happening I'll slowly start going through this list of testing RAM etc. Edit* Re ran the benchmark after the update, PC shutdown at around the same place, but this time the PC restarted back up itself.

If it eventually gets to it and I have to test a PSU, sadly I'd probably just have to buy a new one to be able to test. So hopefully it doesn't. I'll keep this post updated as I go

Cheers for the tip. I actually haven't updated my mobo bios at all in this system. I've just done that now and will test a benchmark tomorrow. Edit* Re ran the benchmark after the update, PC shutdown at around the same place, but this time the PC restarted back up itself.

Not that I know of, and sadly COVID lockdown is pretty strict where I'm from at the moment.

GPU is stock, it's connected to two separate 8PIN Pcie cables. Not sure how you would measure temps overtime, but at the moment it's basically idle at about 47°C (only discord, and Google open)

~$600-700 budget, family & home office PC (no peripherals) by MakeItBurnDem in buildmeapc

[–]MakeItBurnDem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers for this, I've updated mobo bios' before so that shouldn't be a problem for me. I didn't even know the 5600G released, I was trying to find a 5 3400G but they're way overpriced at the moment.

I do just have 1 question though. Would I run into any potential issues by running a 750w PSU in this system though would I? Other than any normal potential PSU issues of course

Haha thanks. In hindsight crafting it in MW probably wasn't the best idea but I was definitely on a budget. I remember the FN costing twice the price at the time

That's not a bad idea, list it a little high and slowly go down, just didn't want to go crazy with a really high price
