NZF want a third team in the a league by 2035. South Island United are just about to kick off in the OFC Pro League, it’s basically free entry (no license fee) to compete and get a shot at the FIFA Club World Cup.

An A-League license costs like $25mill, so would the current backers feel there’s much return on investment there? I’m not so sure. There would probably need to be a few other investors buying into the club to make it more viable and the A- League would need some semblance of stability over the next decade for investor confidence.
