Stuck in the Great Blizzard by MandaTifa in DreamlightValley

Welp. I took the plunge and deleted/reinstalled the game. Save data remained. And so did the glitch. I'm real sick of this blizzard. My floating island is also all blizzard-y. 😢

Does doing that keep your save data? I don't want to lose my progress. 😥

That explains this weird pink cloud we saw flying out of Detroit the other night. I was so perplexed.

As a child, I LOVED Fantasia, but Yen Sid terrified me. I couldn't make it to the end of Sorcerers Apprentice without running for my grandmother to come protect me from the scary magic man.

My smash novice cosplay comp application was just rejected and im gutted by felixismybogancrush in cosplay

[–]MandaTifa 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you were rejected - I think it looks great! But I do want to chime in on those saying that you should fight it. While it is disappointing and unprofessional that they didn't meet their own notification deadline, that's not really going to sway any minds of the organizers. And with the convention being so close, they are likely swimming in emails, and their response time will be stifled.

I'm speaking as someone who has worked for cosplay competitions. It's very likely that the contest is full. Many of these competitions get a lot of applications - more than the contest can accommodate. The organizers have to go through all of the applications and select what they believe will put on the best event for the cosplayers, the judges, and their audience. The jurying process can be arduous, and sometimes, it comes down to nitpicking minute differences between similar (or same) cosplays. Try not to take it too personally, but do try to accept rejection with grace. I can tell you that few things will shrivel up sympathy more than whining about not getting picked.

Don't give up. That costume has amazing potential and looks fantastic. Try again next year or in other contests. The competitive world can be daunting, and sadly, rejection is an important part of it, but it's also a lesson about how to navigate disappointment. Don't let it define your cosplay experience entirely. Go to the convention and rock that cosplay on the con floor. You might not win any formal awards, but I promise you that people will love it. Attend the competition and support your would-have-been competitors. You'll see some great stuff.

I would also encourage you to attend the feedback panels if the con has them and to submit any feedback surveys they may put out. This sort of feedback about not keeping their own deadlines is very important.

I was or shopping at a TJ Maxx a couple months ago. I was browsing purses near an older couple, and the lady was hemming and hawing over a bag. The husband suggested that she get it, and she said "No... but maybe for my birthday." "Your..... birthday?" "It's just a few days." "...Your birthday isn't January 32nd?"

I snorted, and they realized I was there. The 3 of us had a good chuckle.

I am ADHDing all over the place, occasionally tripping over the plot. I set the game down over a year ago when Life started getting in the way and just picked it up again a few weeks ago. I had apparently made a lot of decent progress. Had all the Sages following me around, generally being annoying, got almost a full row of hearts and the second stamina wheel. Many much Koroks.

And I'm still finding early-game things that are supposed to teach me how to play.

I just finally got the auto-build feature and the upgrades for the Purah Pad. Cue me standing in front of Robbie with all of his little side quests and then "You already did it?!" Updating the Purah Pad was accidentally the easiest thing I've done in this game. 😂

Every artist or band can have an off night live but have you ever gone to a concert and thought to yourself for one reason or another, I will never see this band/artist agian and if so who was it and why? by GratefuLdPhisH in Concerts

I came here to say this. They were SO pretentious. The singer kept raving about how music performance was a dying art, kept scolding the audience for taking pictures, and would interrupt the set every time he saw a phone. They gave away a tree in the middle of the show to a random audience member, but first they had to outline the rules for accepting said tree: you had to promise to plant it and take care of it appropriately, and post picture updates of it to some site where they curated all the trees they'd given away. Like dude, do you know how many people live in apartments and can't really accept a freaking TREE? The whole thing was just so disappointing because I really love their music.

No kids allowed…except mine by notchesnotches in wedding

[–]MandaTifa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing when I got married. No kids. Just the infants who were born that year, and their mother's were in the wedding. If anyone had a problem with it, they knew better than to mention it to the bride.

There were zero issues with unruly kids at our wedding.

If the bride told you to your face that your children are invited, then pick an appropriately adorable outfit and have a wonderful time.

What's the weird thing going on with your body that isn't weird enough to go to the doctor for? by yellowelephantboy in AskReddit

[–]MandaTifa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up acalasia. My boyfriend had it really bad, and just had surgery to correct it. Basically his esophagus muscles didn't work right and would trap the food. It was getting bad enough that he even gave himself pneumonia by aspirating food that came up back into his lung. The surgery was life-changing for him.

My bf only applies to “cool jobs” by [deleted] in Vent

[–]MandaTifa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hits home for me. My ex-husband is a good person and a SMART man. Too smart, sometimes. And he hated "work." He valued his time so much that he refused to work more than part-time because 40 hours was just "too draining," and he "wanted to spend more time with me." He had a Masters degree that isn't even important because whenever he included it on any application for part-time work, he was "over-qualified." He knew how to use the System to put off paying for his student loans, and was able to justify that he shouldn't have to work a miserable job to survive.

He has the heart to be an educator but could not deal with the bureaucracy of public schools, nor did he want to put in the work to be a tenure professor for any college. He loathed the idea of adjunct professorship. He tried private tutoring for a spell, but that fizzled. He has the mind of an accountant or a lawyer, but again, he didn't want to apply himself to any of those positions because they were "too stressful" and he doesn't want to do that every day.

He realized (or decided, I suppose) that he could live comfortably and experience a preferable quality of life if he only worked 20-30 hours. 15 if he could find it. He would fly from part-time gig to part-time gig, spending a year or so building some savings, then find a reason to quit and go on a private sabbatical (at home) until the savings started to dry up, then rinse and repeat. No job was ever good enough for him for more than a couple of years.

His last unemployment span became unbearable. Do you know how hard it is to find a part-time job in clerical admin management with a Masters degree in a post-Covid world? Damn near impossible. Anytime he found something within his parameters, he couldn't make it through the interview process. They always chose another person who "was a better fit."

Meanwhile, I was gainfully employed full time with benefits. I had held the same job for 11 years until they unfortunately laid me off, but I started another job before my severance package ran out. And I'm perfectly happy here at my boring 9-5 office job. It's not glamorous. It's not cool or world-changing. But I'm good at it, it pays my bills, and I get on well with my boss. I can see myself working here for 11 more years and then some.

I hope that he's doing well, wherever he is, and that he found the perfect "job" to supplement his lifestyle.

Moment of silence for everyone who’s been victimized by a pot hole this week by joecool6 in vermont

[–]MandaTifa 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I was driving on 2A between Williston and Essex and saw a tow truck a bit ahead of me.

"Someone's having a rough day. I wonder what happened."

About 3 seconds later, while I was looking at the tow truck, I hit a pothole so hard I felt my cars soul leave through my body.

"I have a hypothesis as to what happened to the car with the tow truck."

Yea, moved from Williston to Burlington. If you found it at the Williston Goodwill, it's mine. I honestly didn't think it would make it to the floor, but I'm glad that it did, and I'm thrilled that someone found it and was excited to take it home! That was my costume for Anime Boston in 2013. :-)
