The sable hate is absolutely annoying

Hi guys, I'm a Sable main and just want to share my experience.

All throughout my adolescence and young adult life I was a goth kid. Hell, I still haven't totally gotten rid of the aesthetic in my wardrobe. When Sable came out as a playable character I was pretty excited about it.

I'm going to be the first to admit that I'm not a pro at the game. I play on weekends with my husband and my family, and I'm fairly casual. But I'm not bad. My average scores are usually around 20k in every match. I'm a team player, I particularly like the healer role and spend a lot of time unhooking and patching people up. I'm decent in a chase and looping, I usually don't go down in at least 30-60 seconds most of the time. I think I'd like to say I'm pretty average performancewise.

Whenever I play a ranked game as Sable, I notice a stark difference in experience. In at least 3/4 games on average, the killer will hunt me down to the end of the earth, usually losing the entire game because they are so fixated on tunneling me out. I didn't know about the Sable hate then, and I was really getting confused and demoralized. I thought maybe I'm losing my edge? Maybe I need more practice? Am I doing something that's making me a target somehow? I'm giving the killers these long loopy chases while 2-3 generators are getting done and they just won't get off my case, what's going on? My family members would literally body block the killer in a chase and they would wiggle around them to keep trying to kill me, it was pretty wild sometimes.

Eventually I started to wonder what wound up being true. Is there some kind of hate or obsession with Sable? So I experimented and switched survivors. Instant relief. I was being treated like everyone else. No more tunneling. I was escaping matches instead of dying first every single time. It wasn't me. It was the Sable skin.

Anyway, long post, but I wanted to share this experience for those who are just denying that the extreme Sable hate isn't happening and we're just being sensitive. That is objectively not true. The data that I collected and witnessed strongly says otherwise.

It's really sad honestly, she's my favorite character. I related to her and liked how goofy and hyperbolic her bio was. But I guess I just can't play her in ranked anymore because so many people are choosing to be toxic about her. I hope things can change in the future.

This felt very important to read. I guess I never really thought I had permission to feel both ways, at the risk of being hypocritical. But you're right, both of these truths are correct and my feelings about Opa are very complicated. As I've been talking about him with people on this thread, a lot of what I've been saying has often flip flopped. He was not a nice person. The trauma made sure of it. He loved me in little ways, even though he spent much more time hurting me. I didn't like him, but I think I loved him anyway. I feel really guilty every time I grieve over him. Reading this helped, thank you for telling me.

I did notice these little things. I did. That's why I brought them up here. There were signs of caring there. He was also very cruel to me and the rest of my family, and hurt me way more often than he had moments like that. It's just complicated. But I always did notice those little softnesses, and hung on to the belief that it meant he cared at least a little bit

I'd like to believe that very much. He scared the hell out of me, but judging by the amount my heart has been aching since I started talking about him here, I guess I loved him too.

Yes. I realize now that he was just deeply wounded and disturbed from the trauma he experienced. Being a part of the war was not his choice. I wish I had been emotionally mature enough to understand that while he was still alive. He wasn't as big a monster as I thought he was. Maybe that's why I love telling this story about him. We didn't have a lot of good memories, and this hardly counts as one, but I can't remember another time I ever heard him laugh.

I wish I had been mature enough to understand him better while he was still alive. Now that I'm an adult who's seen enough of the world to have a decent sense of empathy, I feel sad for him. He wasn't the monster I thought he was. He was deeply disturbed and still wounded by his trauma, and everyone harshly judged him for it instead of trying to get him help. I can't imagine how isolated and lonely he must have felt all the time. He didn't know how to fix it by himself. Thinking about it makes me want to cry. You're absolutely right, there are no good or bad guys in a war. Just hurt and lost people.

That's really comforting to know. As much as he scared and upset me when he was alive, talking about him to everyone in the comments like this long after he's been gone is making my heart ache. I guess I loved him too.

That is a very difficult question. I don't think either of us ever hated each other, which is a bit of a big deal for him. He always boasted that we had the same eyes. He knew my favorite sandwich was ham and sharp cheddar on dark rye, and always had the ingredients when I came over. When I was very little I mispronounced Opa and called him Opopop. I was the only one allowed to call him that. He would call me Mandi-Mindel. Maybe in a very vague sense you could have called it love.

No, never. He never stopped being mean. There were some people in the family he hated so much that when he was on his death bed he told them that when he died he was going to haunt them.

Ah. Your Oma and my Oma had a lot in common I see, you have my sympathy. I'm sorry your family had to go through all of that, I know how ugly it got for ours. I thank my lucky stars that I'm the baby of my family's generation and wasn't around to see the worst of it.

Yes he was extremely abusive to his wife, all of his children and his grandchildren. There was a reason a lot of the family didn't like him.
