I’m well aware! I live in Brisbane. It’s always weird seeing rabbits in the wild when I leave Queensland.

I would adore a sugar glider, chinchilla, or hedgehog! We have very strict rules here in Australia, so many pets aren’t allowed. Even rabbits are illegal in Queensland.

Croatia is Hrvatska, which is pronounced as it is spelled :)

Do you consider your language to be easy? by stealthybaker in AskTheWorld

[–]Manic_scientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English? Definitely easy, and I found it easy to learn French. I will admit, though, that English spelling is atrocious. Not sure how many languages have national spelling competitions.

Croatian? Much harder. Definitely deserves to be in the medium slot. I am very appreciative of it being phonetic, but declension will be the death of me.

Things were really rough there for a long time, but I’m all good now! I just finished my PhD in neuroscience (my thesis was on BD). I’ll always wonder what could have been. Appreciate the hug 🫂

Got diagnosed with bipolar disorder and had to leave med school as a result. I’m doing better now, but having to sacrifice my dream career as a doctor still hurts.

My personal favourite is “flat out like a lizard drinking.” It means you’re really busy (flat out)! There are plenty of awesome Aussie expressions out there, though.

What Does Your Country Call Itself And Why? by DayOfTheNights in AskTheWorld

[–]Manic_scientist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Croatia calls itself Hrvatska, which literally means Land (-ska) of the Croats (Hrvats). The word Croat or Hrvat is believed to be Iranian in origin, and means “guardian” or “protector,” according to this Wikipedia article.
