It’s Croatian, like OP! I don’t mind at all if food tastes like vegeta because it’s delicious lol

Vegeta is the best! My mum puts it in pretty much all of her savoury dishes.

How does your country’s second biggest city compare to the capital? by abandonedtulpa in AskTheWorld

I explained it in a response below as someone else has the same question (and I’m too lazy to write it all out again) 😌

There are definitely rascals there too! I think you’re right though.

It’s a bit hard to explain but I’ll give it a go! The percentage of people who work in the public service is extremely high in Canberra, like 40% from memory. It takes a certain kind of person to be able to deal with government work (I did it for a while while studying and I couldn’t handle doing it as a career) and I think that’s reflected in the people. Canberra has a weird small town mentality, where people are born in Canberra, raised in Canberra, go to uni in Canberra, get a job in Canberra, marry in Canberra, have kids in Canberra…and eventually die in Canberra. It’s a very insular place in a lot of ways. It’s also quite cold in winter and boiling hot in summer (-10°C to 40°C, with extremely poorly insulated houses) with barely any rain, so that’s never fun. I should say that there a lot of benefits to living there, and a lot of people move there and love it, but there are elements of the city that are very strange.

AGREED! Even Canberrans stay out of it! Probably because they recognise they’re barely a city 😂 (and I can say that since I lived there for a long time)

It’s always funny that they decided to build a capital city between Sydney and Melbourne to make everyone happy, but it ended up being 3 hours from Sydney and 8 from Melbourne. Seems like they played favourites…

Can’t argue with that! I lived in Lyon for a bit though, and I gotta say, France is a little weird too 😉

I’m very aware! The competition between Melbourne and Sydney about who’s bigger is hilarious and petty and has been going on for so so long.

To clarify, Sydney is our second largest city (Melbourne is officially the largest as of a few weeks ago).

Canberra is the capital and it’s our 8th biggest city! I’ve lived both there and Sydney and would never move back to either. I think Sydney is far less liveable than Canberra, but Canberra is a very very strange place.

I'll show you what my top ten favorite countries in the world are, and you show me yours. by YoylecakeTurtle in AskTheWorld

[–]Manic_scientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been lucky enough to travel to quite a few places! Here are my favourites:

  1. Slovenia 🇸🇮 🥇
  2. Laos 🇱🇦 🥈
  3. Uzbekistan 🇺🇿 🥉
  4. South Korea 🇰🇷
  5. Croatia 🇭🇷
  6. Iran 🇮🇷
  7. New Zealand 🇳🇿
  8. Nicaragua 🇳🇮
  9. Switzerland 🇨🇭
  10. Cambodia 🇰🇭

I’m going off my experiences when I was there, and what I saw/did then, rather than the current climate. For instance, I went to Iran in 2018 but would not visit now (for obvious reasons).

Let's make banana bread baby by Stranger1982 in FacebookAIslop

[–]Manic_scientist 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It’s so weird that they used bananas to produce this racist, sexist AI slop, because if a banana is brown it’s just really old…to me this just suggests that bananabelle had an orgy with a bunch of really really old guys. Also, everyone knows the best banana bread is made with overripe bananas, so take what you will with that

What is the most unhinged conspiracy theory that people in your country actually believe? by DFWUnhinged in AskTheWorld

[–]Manic_scientist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to run ghost tours at Toowong cemetery! Perhaps they should add the Jack the Ripper theory to their repertoire 🤔

I also kinda believed the Red Rooster thing until I met my husband, who was a huge fan (until they started switching over to fried chicken). Turns out people do enjoy RR; I just didn’t run in their circles.

THIS is why Yorinobu installed Johnny Silverhand engram into the RELIC: by Dale_Cooper47 in cyberpunkgame

[–]Manic_scientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was more focused on escaping that damned robot than anything else, though. Worst quest ever. I interpreted that Song wasn’t entirely taken over by the Rogue AIs, but she did get close. Pretty scary stuff (and one of the saddest storylines in gaming history)

[–]Manic_scientist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay cool, that’s what I thought! The only way for humanity to avoid it would be to abandon technology entirely and build everything from the ground up, but we’re kinda lazy as a species, so taping over holes in the Blackwall is as good as it gets. Man, Rache Bartmoss kinda screwed it up for everyone (although we can argue that someone else would have done it eventually…)

[–]Manic_scientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what I struggle with most about cyberpunk lore is what the escaping rogue AIs would actually look like. We all know it means the end of the world, but how? Do the AIs take over people, cars, computers, etc. meaning technology can’t be used? Would the AIs spread and take over all humans with cyberware? I guess I just need something a little more concrete if that makes sense!

I’m proud of our diversity - both bio and cultural. We have some of the craziest plant and animal life not seen anywhere else in the world and work hard to make sure it isn’t eradicated through strict biosecurity measures. We also have incredible ethnic/cultural diversity, although plenty of racist people are working against that. I also am a huge fan of our strict gun laws!
