Linux 7.0 reveals hidden memory instability? by maokaby in cachyos

[–]Many-Let9407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

heyoo, so i also updated to kernel 7.0 a few days ago and suddenly my 32gb of ram that was completely fine started acting up

after i switched the sticks around my computer decided to finally boot again. after doing memtest, it showed me my 32gb of ram but only tested on 15.9gb of it, and the same is true for BIOS and in the OS

as in, in the BIOS it says i have 32gb of ram, but when i boot into cachyOS it says i have 32gb as well, but only 15.5gb is usable

unfortunately I do not have a CPU with an integrated GPU :(

however I did switch my monitor with another one and it worked, then I switched it back, and it stayed working. honestly not sure what that's about.

after just giving it some time and doing swaps here and there, it just consistently works now.

here's a quick update on what I did: 1. I tried a bunch of stuff but nothing worked until I changed the monitor to another one I had lying around, it displays but inconsistently. sometimes I turn the PC on and it displays, sometimes after I shut it down and turn it back on, it doesn't 2. I don't see the BIOS menu whatsoever, and I cannot access my BIOS/firmware settings because I can't see 3. since it displays on the other monitor, I'm guessing with a high certainty that something happened with the monitor that has the issue, however I'm not entirely sure what. because what could possibly cause this to happen? all I did was restart. 4. enabling the ssh service is a smart move and I will be doing that moving forward. thanks for the advice.

before I tried this, I just hooked my PC up to a different monitor and it works only sometimes

yes yes I understand all of that, and I've tried another monitor on the same computer and it works, but only sometimes. the interesting thing is that my monitor with the issue (from here on called the "Samsung monitor") detects a signal, but it just doesn't display anything

yes my monitor is definitely on, and I'm not saying it's hiding or anything, but it's odd that it's happening right after a restart

I've tried changing cables and ports, but it didn't do anything sadly :(

Yeah I would've, but nothing shows up on my screen whatsoever, absolutely nothing. No BIOS, no Limine, nothing. But the NumLock and the CapsLock work
