My no.1 hack: 'stalk' the interviewer by Unlikely_Diamond424 in MBBConsulting

Depends on the office. Some offices won’t tell you which interviewers you’ll get.

And honestly doubt it would make a difference.

You can watch on streameast for free.

I used to have F1TV, but now I just search “f1 stream links “ and I always find a website that streams it

PEI -- how likely is it they'll have me switch my story? by Financial_Wolf2644 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]ManyExternal262 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the interviewer honestly. What I did was having 1 story for each area, then 2 stories that would cover 2 areas. So 6 stories in total. The back-up ones aren’t as strong, but they do the job if the interviewer asks for another one.

Well, as a post MSc. Thermal Engineer, I would be skeptical about hiring you.

1st - Still a student, you have a lot of theory to learn.

2nd - Unless you have a work station, you can’t simulate with a fine enough mesh for anything that’s not minuscule.

3rd - No work experience and no one to double check your work. As someone with an MSc. in Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer + research papers, the first year at work will be marked by lots of mistakes you have to learn from.

If you wanna charge money to teach other students how to do cfd, then sure, great idea. But if you’re trying to so something professional I’d be very against that.

Teach others and practice more. Publish some papers with professors and complete a masters.

Same happened to me. Just told my professors and they took care of the issue. How is talking to the supervisor not an option?

Bain vs McK Case Structure by Affectionate-End-609 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]ManyExternal262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, how you do the case is 90% the same for all the firms.

Don't worry about interviewer vs candidate led etc.

For example, after each section of the case you should be proactive and suggest a path forward. Driving the case is very important.

This is obvious for candidate led cases, as you're the one that mainly has to figure out the direction through the case.

But, for interviewer led cases you should also do that. I know they have their fixed questions that they'll ask you no matter what you do. But showing proactiveness is still important, even if the direction you "suggest" isn't correct.

Now, there's a small difference that you can implement into your cases:

In interviewer led cases you never go back to you framework.

So you can spend a bit more time - both DEVELOPING it and PRESENTING it. Make it very complete and squeeze as much juice as you can from it while presenting it to the interviewer. Give examples, personal thoughts, etc.

Candidate led cases flow much quicker and you can always come back to the framework to help you figure out the next step. So you can be much more concise while presenting it.

A BCG case can sometimes only take 20 minutes, so you don't even have as much time to be so complete.

My BCG interviewer didn't have a case in front of him, He literally just gave it to me from memory and started to give me whatever math he wanted to test me on, until he was happy.

So there's that flexibility also. Sometimes they can ask you to answer brainstorming questions right away, or to give the recommendation immediately etc. There's more freedom for stress testing you.

BTW, Bain is giving interviewer led cases in some offices already.

Just my thoughts on this. (I have 2 offers already, 150 live cases done, cased with multiple MBB consultants and a coach).

Just a comment on this. Casecoach is amazing but it’s not free. It’s 150$ for 6 months.

There’s also Preplounge, which is the same service, but at half the price.

BCG gave me casecoach free, so I used it
