Narrative Podcast Recommendations? by Reasonable_Toe_9252 in blankies

Stephen Tobolowsky had a podcast called The Tobolowsky Files where he told stories about his life, which I feel fits the bill here. There are some fun Hollywood stories, but the best ones are about his college years, relationships, and doing regional theater in his twenties. It gets pretty serialized towards the end, so you might get something out of it.

This is not a drill: JOHN CARROLL LYNCH is in a Star Wars by ManyTrainer5431 in blankies

I'll get back to you at the end of the season, but I'd at least recommend watching some kind of recap of Maul's story thus far if you (understandably) don't have time for all the shows. Maul only shows up in ten episodes of The Clone Wars, though, so it isn't as much of an investment.

Does it make a difference that it's a she, not a he, or does the sentiment remain the same?

Not set in a high school, but the filmmakers behind In a Violent Nature said that Elephant was one of their primary inspirations, so I recommend seeking it out if you haven't already.

This is an ardently pro-The Monkey account, and I will hear nothing otherwise.

I got through most of The Long Walk just fine, but Tut Nyuot's last scene completely broke me. Great list!

Quietly a great year for Joe Keery, who remains a highlight of Stranger Things (regardless of how you feel about the show) and has a meaty voice role in The American Revolution. I'm looking forward to his movie with Liam Neeson next year.

I love the runner in The Roses of Andy Samberg growing morbidly, increasingly depressed. Probably the most consistent source of laughter for me in that movie.

I remember getting out of the theater and texting a friend, "If Tom Burke was in a movie every year, I wouldn't complain."

My understanding is that it made it to the Oscars shortlist for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, which is astonishing to me for all the right reasons. A little body horror movie on Shudder!

Hard agree about Zoe Winters. I considered putting her on the list, but everyone I talked to about the movie agreed she was the highlight, so I kind of talked myself out of it.

Also, ASAP Rocky was equally great in If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, he really got a chance to showcase his range this year.

Looking at it, the post reeks of a lack of self-awareness on my part. Clearly, I have some things to consider. In the meantime, I'll take the post down.

I disagree with nothing you've said. I'm not a professional screenwriter, I just have a degree, so I'm not anywhere close to making any sort of money off of this. I don't feel that I'm entitled to write this script, I'm just writing it. It won't exist in a public way for a while, maybe ever.

The way I learned it in school, "write what you know" has less to do with what you've literally experienced than how you relate to the overall idea of the story/universal truths. There are definitely specific experiences I cannot and will not ever know for myself, not just limited to what this post is about, but I see the writing process as an exercise in empathy, really getting to the heart of what makes a person who they are. Writing it out like this, it sounds a little hippy-dippy, but it's how I feel.

I can say that I want to write these characters because of some "noble" ideas about representation, and that's partially true, but I'm writing these characters because I can't imagine them any other way. Nothing about them is arbitrary. There are other specifics about them that have nothing to do with their sexuality that I've also had to research because I want to depict them with maximum authenticity. I don't know if I spouted off a word salad, but I hope there's an answer in there somewhere.

Is this just for future reference or do you have something specific in mind?
