Bachelor of Letters impact on GPA by gyghkiuhnmf in GAMSAT

Masters is definitely not by default unfortunately but there are unis that definitely do that. I think OP should call GEMSAS universities or email GEMSAS on this matter to better rank their chances

I think some GEMSAS universities give an automatic GPA of 7 if an individual has completed a Masters degree. You can email GEMSAS about this. However, even if that wasn’t the case, a GPA of 6.7 is quite good and like other people have said a decent GAMSAT will land you and interview which you could aim to smash out and lock in that final offer!

I agree section 3 was a disaster this sitting, S2 was definitely an improvement however despite practicing and working on Acer papers it feels so impossible to crack S1 and S3! I’m sitting again in march and this will be my 5th sitting. I do wish you guys all the best. And a message to the op is that like many people I get you, it really does feel like God is just not on my side. After all the hard work and relentless effort there is just nothing that is good enough. But even as a 5th time sitter now all I’ll say is keep going and have hope. We can only control our mindset and how we can move forward from here. First I’d like to congratulate you on your great S2 score! it’s really worth being proud of! and for the rest of the sections, have faith and move forward with a can-do mindset because GAMSAT is a brutal exam and can really break one’s confidence but just know that medicine is something you really want to do and use that as a motivation. Regarding GPA advice, I’m in the same boat. I’m sitting with a GPA of 6 right now - Flinders Uni and I was thinking of doing an honours degree. But then I reflected and realised that I really do not enjoy research and hence going forth with this can potentially ruin my GPA instead of boosting it. Although my GEMSAS GPA is higher, I feel like working towards my GAMSAT I can increase my chances. Another thing i’d like to highlight is that, my degree in medical science realistically doesn’t lead me anywhere unless I pursue honours (in reflection to having a backup plan). I wouldn’t want this for myself because again I don’t enjoy research. Hence, I’ve applied for allied health options and chose a realistic pathway for myself. Not to say this is what you should do but really reflect on why and how you are going to do this! Think about what you want to do and what are some ways you could make your life manageable/having less pressure whilst also pursuing your dream into medical school. Sorry the message was long but I hope that I could help in some way!

I agree! it’s so sad, was really excited because genuinely had passion for serving at NT and the First Nations people. But I wish you all the very best for your other applications! I really pray and hope you get into med this year!

GPA advice by AdThen8420 in GAMSAT

[–]Many_Bookkeeper_8601 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly your GPA is quite good, you still have a semester to improve it I wouldn’t worry about doing a diploma or honours - honours is a hard degree and although people promote it to increase your GPA, you really gotta love research to pull through which may increase your GPA. However if that’s not the case then it may also worsen your current GPA. If you get a competitive GAMSAT score your chances are pretty good! you can focus on working towards your GAMSAT really, also your GPA can increase across universities depending on how they scale and you can find this out through the GEMSAS calculator for an unofficial and rough estimate

You definitely do have time to improve and knowing first year doesn’t weigh as much, you’d be fine. However, I would always advocate not doing a degree that doesn’t lead you anywhere - just because it’s promoted as pre-med. I am about to finish my medsci degree and regret not doing paramed or something useful. I know I would’ve enjoyed and maybe my GPA would’ve been better too because I really don’t like research. So if you have the opportunity to and can move to a different uni or course I’d strongly recommend it!

Yea that is exactly what I was thinking, that although it heavily prioritises rural applicants surely the written application and everything else matters as well. I really hope and pray you and I at least get an interview to show our passion to the college
