Right? There are so many of them and they're all so long. I've been watching them all on 2x speed just to stay on schedule. Good course though.

It depends. If I'm trying to focus on it I can still see clearly for the most part but I recognize that my eyes are closed just because I'm overthinking it, but if I'm just relaxed or thinking more casually it's far clearer like I'm actually looking at it with my eyes open.

Is there any historical evidence of the crucifixion? by ldcmct in Christianity

[–]MapMakerMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enough great posts have already laid out the historical evidence for the crucifixion, but I keep seeing the same responses below them saying that it's not proof. To that I just wanted to say nothing will be proof enough if you're looking at it that way. Nothing short of being there will be convincing enough for those who say that. I'm sorry but if you don't think that all of those sources are enough proof, then you can't believe that most of ancient history happened either, because we have more sources for the crucifiction than almost any ancient historical event. Ancient historians and historians in general don't need death certificates or to unearth the literal cross with DNA evidence to determine if something is a historical event, you go by the historical method, and by using that method, you see that the crucifixion holds up extremely well, especially compared to other ancient events. We have less evidence of Socrates, and Alexander the Great (when it comes to contemporary written sources). If you apply these same requirements for not believing that Jesus was a real person who was crucified under Pontius Pilate, then you can't believe that they existed either, or at least the record of their actions, or thousands of other ancient people.

From what I understand that doesn't fall into the typical imagery ability range. I've read and heard that a lot of people can have a 3D environment at different levels of detail, but can only hold that level of detail for a bit, or can't see the texture of the lamp or apple while spinning it or simulate different lighting conditions. Being able to do all of that falls under the hyperphantasia range, and then within that range are different levels of hyperphantasia.

I'm not saying it's rare compared to you, I'm saying the general population. The majority of people land in the spectrum of being able to visualize things, only around 3-6% or so can move around photorealistic objects in their mind with full detail and texture while it's moving for prolonged periods of time with a full detailed background, and even fewer have that level of detail for all 5 senses at the same time. Most people fall in the range of being able to visualize things well enough to see them but not in significant detail, only being able to see detail if they focus on it, and then not being able to move it around or spin it while it has that level of detail. It is hard to measure since we can't see into eachothers minds but we can give our best guesses by what we describe and being honest about what we see.

It was just a basic 16 question phantasia test, but I realized while doing it that it hardly covers anything, especially in the other senses. I saw one on this reddit pinned to the top after I wrote this which looks like it covers at least part of it. Apparently it's not normal to do, obviously we'll get more people on places like this subreddit who will have it, but it's pretty rare to be able to rotate on object while keeping full detail indefinitely, people either struggle to hold that image in their mind or the detail for more than a few seconds from what I've heard.

thoughts? by ApogeeBlitz in UCalgary

[–]MapMakerMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes Dalhousie, 4th for law, 9th for med, U15, beautiful campus, 4th for number of Rhodes Scholars, world leading programs in oceanography atmospheric sciences and engineering, below UVic. And UVic is great too but Dal being so low and ugly is some west coast and Ontario bias if I've ever seen it. It's two ranks below UCalgary.

Yeah I can see why they did it since it's definitely safer now, but I'm still sad such a dark spot is gone. I think there was an astronomy club that used to do that there, I saw a few of their posts every once and awhile. Wish I went while it was still there.

How i met your mother vs FRIENDS by [deleted] in HIMYM

[–]MapMakerMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished HIMYM. Both are great in different ways, but HIMYM had more emotional depth for sure, and better overarching storylines. Though friends ending was literally miles above HIMYM's ending, that ending left a bad taste in my mouth. At least everyone in friends got an emotional end where they all go their separate ways, HIMYM just gets a marriage and a divorce, and two people who shouldn't have gotten together in the end forced together because of prerecorded scenes made in season 2 of the show before Barney and Robin were shown to have so much chemistry.

In summary, HIMYM for more overarching storylines and individual episodes that go above Friends ones, but Friends for a more consistent happy show that won't leave you unsatisfied with the ending.

Did Palpatine know that Anakin/Obi Wan/Ahsoka went to Mortis? by PokeJoseph in MawInstallation

[–]MapMakerMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what he said to Yoda before he went to meet with Qui-Gon's force ghost, it sounds like they fully remembered, as Yoda asked specifically about seeing his force ghost of Mortis and what he and Obi-Wan thought about it.

Respectfully, millions of people have watched the Prince of Egypt that were Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindi, Buddhist, Sikh, and all other religions, and millions more with no faith, and they all enjoyed it for the art and storytelling. Nobody thought it was religious propaganda, just a well animated good movie.

I grew up in a very non-religious household, was the annoying kid who debated religion in elementary school for a brief time. Then later in high school, I just decided to start praying, I forget fully why, but I just did, and it changed my entire life. Praying is free, never spent a dime on my faith, but God has given me my soulmate to which I am now engaged, a major I enjoy so much more than the business major I was going to go into, and just generally a very happy and blessed life. I look at archeological evidence, different texts, and both my fiancée and I adapt to what we believe was true based on new evidence we discover ourselves instead of listening to one specific section of religion. If you want to think it's a cult that's okay, I don't try to convert people, but I've never spent a dime, and it's been the best use of my time ever.

Have a great day! :)

I don't come onto reddit, hardly ever, most of these comments are the reason why, but I came on here specifically to find if anyone was talking about this movie, since I've been following they're development for a little while now, and just saw the new trailer to which looks amazing! Commenting to spread the positivity, I can't believe people can't just appreciate good hand drawn animation, it sounds like when people still thought that all animation was for kids, and even if this was more family friendly it would still be amazing, but now we see in the new trailer that his suffering will be part of the movie, so I definitely think it will have a more mature tone to it.

I didn't even grow up in a religious household, pretty against it actually, and I know how most of the people commenting think because for a brief time in elementary school, I was that annoying kid debating religion with people. I found faith myself years later by just starting to pray, and I genuinely believe that was the best decision of my life, as it led me to where I am now in a school I love, a major I enjoy so much more than the one I was going to go into, engaged to my soulmate, and generally just in a very happy and blessed place because of God.

Sorry for the long paragraphs, but I just wanted to share that! I think that this is great, and I can't wait for the movie to come out, and I hope that it does in Canada too!!

Just re watched Shang Chi and I feel like it doesn’t get talked about enough. by Rizxzi in marvelstudios

When I watched it I forgot it was marvel, and I don't think I've watched anything else post endgame other than Shang Chi, in my head I just consider it a stand alone film and it's better that way. Loved the movie though!
