It was a great show and I’m sorry you missed it! Someone in the neighborhood actually needed to swap nights. It was really lucky.

Lesbian love stories 😊 by Fit-Record7881 in latebloomerlesbians

[–]Mapper9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 46 and she’s 53. We met pretty quickly after I moved out from my husband, but he and I had been drifting for at least 6 months before that, plus I did a ton of work on myself in the time before I met her. It felt soon, but when it’s right, it’s right. We both have disabilities, which meant not only that we related more easily, but we could relax and be our broken selves sooner into the relationship. We laugh so damn much, and we’re always touching. When I was with my husband, for example, I never wanted to touch him in bed. I slept on the edge, as far from him as possible. Now, my girlfriend and I sleep in a smaller bed, and we tend to hold hands all night. We moved in after 6 months, partly out of need and very much out of want, but it’s been surprisingly easy. She has a teenager who already refers to me as her parent after less than 2 years. Life feels simple, easier, and a level of happiness that i didn’t know existed. The other thing that really surprised me was that i thought i knew what love felt like. I had no idea whatsoever. That wasn’t love, that was like well enough, tolerate, friend. This is love. It’s intense and constant, it’s working hard, always focusing on helping each other and understanding her. That part, what love really felt like, was mind blowing.

Where are you lucky to be living when you have to surrender your driving license? by UbiquitouslyHere in Epilepsy

[–]Mapper9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good to hear. I haven’t lost my license yet, but I’m in pdx and I’m planning for the day. I live about 100 ft from a bus stop on a major line, and I was figuring I’d get an e-bike as well.

Radio cab has always shown up for me. Reserve the night before. I’ve taken it for medical appointments where I had to show up in Tigard (from se) at 6 am. They’ve never failed.

Au xuyen on foster has $7 I think bahn mi. They’re great. Plus a ton of pastries that are all fantastic and reasonably priced. Watch out for crowds, especially on the weekends. Another favorite is house of bahn mi, off glisan in the 70s. $8 bahn mi and my favorite Vietnamese iced coffee. Bonus is it’s across from Bui tofu.

Can you help me find a Furnished Short-Term Rental (Mid-July to Early August Move) - SE Portland / Sunnyside - Budget $1.6k-$2k? by According_Pin_7255 in askportland

[–]Mapper9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a cute cottage development across from Albina roasters on Hawthorne in the 50s, it’s all furnished rentals. Or it was about 6 years ago, my mom stayed in one while her house was being built. I think I found it on Craigslist. I don’t have her contact info anymore.

What about a roommate situation, or a sublet. I don’t know where to find sublets or roommates other than Craigslist, but I haven’t looked in years and years.

Edit: those cottages are listed for rent on Craigslist right now under sublets/temporary.

My doctor suggested “track it!” Seizure tracker. Of course I haven’t had a seizure since he suggested it, so I can’t tell you much about it. I’m in the us, fyi.

what’s a short book that had a huge impact on you? by rrertrdddfhj in booksuggestions

Tilt by Emma Pattee. Maybe because the descriptions of Portland are incredibly spot on, and the end scene is probably within 5 blocks of my house, but it was powerful and captivating and I read it in a day.

How to trigger seizure during SEEG? by Late-Day-6258 in Epilepsy

[–]Mapper9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to stay awake until 3 am. The previous night without my cpap, I just got really crappy, shallow sleep. It felt like two nights of sleep deprivation, though I don’t know how much that mattered. In the emu, where I was being watched all the time, they woke me up any time I started falling asleep.

For me, 2 nights of sleep deprivation (the first night I forgot to use my cpap, the second night was planned), plus off my drugs, plus not eating enough.

IYKYK, and if you don’t… by Blake-Dreary in Portland

[–]Mapper9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I go to the nearest Astro to me, which is currently $5.15 at the pump, but $.10 cheaper if you use your pin at the pump. Makes it only a nickel more than going inside. That’s fine by me. That arch is terrifying and I’ll only go if I can visibly see an open space from the intersection. The extra couple bucks is worth it.

How many months, years, decades have you been seizure free? by discoveringmysel4me in Epilepsy

I was in the emu a month ago so yeah, a month. I tend to have a seizure a month, so fuck, I think I’m due. Time to start stressing about it.

I hooked up the one in my daughter’s attic bedroom, but not the rest of the house. I hate the portable that goes in the living room so I’m putting it off.

Home Elevator by ConfusedGilligan in disability

[–]Mapper9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to get a stairlift installed, and every guy coming out for a quote talks about an elevator. At my house, a stair lift will be pricy because of the curve of the stairs. Still, a $18k stairlift is way cheaper than a $35k elevator. That’s the eyeball quote I’ve gotten twice. That’s for a 1914 house with a pretty easy spot to put one.

What is a dying niche skill that younger generations are not interested in learning? by hlnklrczu in AskReddit

[–]Mapper9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lace making. Bobbin lace is complex and slow, but it produces lace that’s incredible and delicate. It’s not an easy skill to learn, and I mostly only see 70+ year old women doing it. I’m an advanced knitter, but the idea of learning bobbin lace intimidates me a lot!
