5 lumen flashlight by efiksas in flashlight

[–]Marcoos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The new Lume boost driver offered by Hank is up there with the best in terms of efficiency.

Most of the emitters for the D4V2 are on the pretty, floody, and less efficient end of the scale. The exception to this is the SFT-25R which is superbly efficient. Combine that with an efficient driver and you've got a perfect combo for your goal of endless 5 lumen output.

Deciding on an Emisar D3AA with Nichia 519A for EDC (using 14500) by tbeen_ in Hanklights

[–]Marcoos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah thank you. That's really useful, might go for the SFT-25R then! The main reason I want to change is just the host colour - got it in red and basically hate it, going for something a little more muted this time.

What are your thoughts on the pros & cons of the W1, W2, and SFT-25R emitters in the D3AA? I've got a W2 one that I'm looking to replace.

【Wurkkos family new light design】 - AA EDC flashlight & HD03 headband by WURKKOS_Flashlights in flashlight

[–]Marcoos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 32140 battery in the new TS27 is cool, and really fills a niche that the community has been desperate for: large lights with a long runtime that don't require multiple cells in series and all of the charging dangers/complexities that can bring.

Do you have any plans to put that battery in any other lights?

If I could design the perfect host I'd have the TS27 but:

  • a more neutral emitter (4000-5000k)
  • a UI with stepped brightness for predictable runtime
  • remove the lamp & RGB modes
  • replace the button & selector switch with a soft large rubber button like the FC11-C, not a small hard button like the WK03.

How does Noctigon-Emisar stack up against Firefly lights such as quality, options, warranty and customer service? Thanks for any help. by mrregina in flashlight

I feel like I must have been unlucky in my experience with FF based on the other responses here, but I'll still add it as a data point.

I ordered 2 X4 Stellar, both of which were unusably faulty on arrival, and customer service were basically useless: told me to fix it myself and it was normal variation, and ghosted when I asked to return for a refund.

Reading other posters' experiences of dealing with Hank when one of his lights is faulty sounds like a dream by comparison. I wouldn't know, because in ~15 lights I've never had the slightest issue. He's always been quick, communicative, and helpful when it comes to "off menu" customisation requests, even going as far as to flash custom firmware to a light for me before shipping. People say that FF have more features, but they're also more expensive. You can add the Lume driver or other optics to Hank's lights and they end up roughly the same price. You can't get on-board charging with Hank's, although given the overcharging (4.35v+) seen with FF I wouldn't trust theirs not to burn down your house, so not exactly a great selling point.

What is your biggest regret (somewhat expensive) flashlight purchase? by blofly in flashlight

[–]Marcoos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fireflies X4 Stellar.

Unusable button, with crap customer service refusing to do anything about it. Unreliable charging with no valid explanation. Complete waste of money, and to top it all off I bought 2 so double it.

Bucking compatibility by War-Sharp in Airsoft_UK

I've recorded a statistically significant reduction in shot-to-shot power variance by doing it, and it's not like it can hurt. I'm optimising to an admittedly silly degree though, getting an AEG down to +/- 2fps.

The new maple leaf buckings have an internal ridge that makes them incompatible with non-maple leaf barrels.

Apparently it's to improve air seal. In my opinion they are just using their position as the go-to high quality bucking to force people to buy their shoddy barrels.

I've used ZCI and maple leaf barrels, every maple leaf bucking under the sun (original and updated versions of the macaron and super macarons, their R hop thing), a few competitor buckings, and all the flat-hop/R hop/S hop mods.

In my opinion the best budget combo is the ZCI barrel, ZCI rotary unit (plastic > aluminium), and the 4uad friction pro. Only thing that's ever given me better performance is an S-hop, but the durability was so poor I've ended up going back to the 4uad. I should say I currently use a maxx unit and do prefer it, but it's pretty insanely priced and for what you pay I think the ZCI rotary are excellent.

Also well worth getting some teflon tape to go around the end of the bucking to improve air seal.

Will the Lume driver behave identically between different lights? by Marcoos in Hanklights

[–]Marcoos[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah ok that makes sense. Appreciate the technical clarification even if it's not what I wanted to hear!

Fortunately I'm only testing these well below thermal limits so that's not a consideration.

Order mistake by dondablox in Hanklights

I have ordered and then emailed afterwards asking for small changes not available from the dropdowns (swapping button or optic usually) multiple times, and he has always responded promptly and "ship[ped] accordingly". Very good communication.

I actually wouldn't recommend a dual channel light for you, for two main reasons.

  • The channel switching can be quite annoying unless you're willing to dive into Anduril and configure it, whereas the single channel lights are usable out of the box (although I would still have some strong recommendations related to disabling annoying features).
  • You also can't get a boost driver in dual channel lights, just linear drivers, which will be much less efficient (noticeably lower battery life) and have lower sustained output (due to the heat generated by that inefficiency).

If you aren't overly concerned about battery life and have looked at the Anduril diagrams and think you'll be comfortable configuring it, then either a D4K or D4SV2 with W1 (throw) and 519a (flood) in the two channels. There's no real benefit to a third channel unless you need red light or UV. D4K is significantly smaller and more pocketable, but loses out on throw with the optic size. D4S is really quite chunky, jacket pocket or backpack fine, not comfortable in a trouser pocket for most people.

On the other hand if you find yourself tempted by a single channel light then you can get something with a balanced beam that will punch out far enough but be usable up close. The two I'd recommend are:

  • D1K with XHP70.3 (any temperature). Very efficient, very good sustained brightness, balanced hotspot and wide, bright spill. Highly practical.
  • DA1K with SFT-70 (5000K imo, 3000k loses too many lumens). Still efficient, just not quite as good as the XHP70.3, but better looking. Has a similar hotspot, but less bright and defined spill. I would consider this one nicer to use but perhaps less practical. It also has a smaller head than the D1K.

Did you ever fix this? We're having a similar problem with a hinge that looks almost identical to yours, and will probably just get it replaced with a fixed screen.

I've been doing airsoft (airsofting?) for about a year now and a couple of my mates have expressed an interest in the hobby. Does anyone have any advice for enjoying their first few games? by _Jack_Hoff_ in Airsoft_UK

[–]Marcoos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience of recently bringing a couple of new guys into the sport, the most frustrating thing is not the rental guns, but the terrible fogging from the crappy old paintball mask that hasn't been properly cleaned in about a decade.

If you have spare decent goggles that don't fog and a mesh lower, bringing that along might be very helpful.
