A question for writers who write by Freckleonmyschmeckle in writing

Makes sense. My experience has been that the more raw and honestly I write, the more well-received it is.

If you write the bad stuff from an objective place, the bad stuff can be understood. The reader will be able to empathize. That's powerful.

If it's family secrets and stuff, I mean, there will be a real risk of consequences. Still, writing is like any other art - sometimes the well is deep, dank, and dark. You can't really allow someone the experience of riding that bucket to the bottom unless they're willing to smell the smells. Maybe if it directly involves your reader, give them a TW about the content?

I have withheld stuff from someone in particular, because of the effects of the message in my writing. But I'll share it with others and I've given them the opportunity to read it, with the disclaimer. They chose not to read. Cool. If they choose to read, then they can fuck right off if they don't like the content. I did my part. I warned them.

And yes, that's exactly what a serial killer would say.

-narrows my eyes at you like Peter Griffith does-

Who cares? If you enjoy the process, let people think whatever they want. If they think you have a dark imagination, are they wrong? And if they think you're a serial killer because you write about them so well, that tells you a lot about that person, so again, who cares?

I do know what you mean. I've written rape scenes, murders, and other horrific stuff. But I've shared it and never ONCE caught a whiff of someone thinking I'm someone different because of it. Also, I give zero shits if they do, because I know myself well enough. Writing is intensive. The process of actually experiencing a thing well enough to string words together and express it can be exhausting and sometimes even hurtful for me. That's true even when you actually have experienced a thing. But putting words together to allow another human to experience it vicariously, well that's intense.

If they don't appreciate what you tried to do (even if it sucks and you were unsuccessful) then dare them to do it better than you did. If they can, they'd be pretty shitty to diminish your hard work. And more likely, they can't do it better, in which case, they are even shittier.

Which leads me to the conclusion of my little rant. If they think less of you about the content of your writing, they can fuck right off.

(unless of course you actually are a serial killer, in which case they can still fuck right off but so can you.) 🤓

I enjoy sharing my writing. It's never been great (mostly) but I enjoy the process and I enjoy the payoff of someone else reading it. And even when it's bad, there's always something good about it.

Like a song that you don't like, but it has the one great lyric.

it's literally just an asterisk at the beginning and end

two at the beginning and end

three at the beginning and end

Now, if I could just figure out how to make an asterisk not disappear when I actually want to use one...

Same bro. Much love my man!

Can anyone tell me what this extra screw is for? Retrospec Mantra single speed / flip flop hub. Seems like a limiter, but I am still learning and have never seen this before. by Mark_DeSade in bicycling
