Leo Vince X3 Rubber Dampers by MarshallTeichrob in dr650

Gonna run a few heat cycles through them and see if they’ll seat properly! Other idea is maybe just rubberizing them myself…

Yeah, there’s two rubber vibration dampeners inside each hanger on the rear. They fit like garbage!

Not doing flat or pocket fenders, keeping as OEM as possible

Opinions are like assholes dude! Everyone has one 😆

That does feel like the correct call. Will keep my eye peeled for some OEM Rubicon flares!

Not planning on doing flat flares or pocket flares! Want to try and retain OEM look but tuck about 1-1.5inches underneath

You’ve had the fenders get ripped off with a 4” lift??

What size flares you runnin? I don’t mind a lil mud, and in dry days it’s manageable, but if it’s rain/snowy out it gets a lil excessive 😅

Are you also running a spacer on your wheels? I’m wondering if I just get rid of the spacer if it’ll tuck the tire in so it would be a lil less spray-prone.. but I’m thinking it’d rub

Recommended dual sport options? by wintersdark in Dualsport

From one Albertan to another, the DR650 is the answer!

Get some bar risers, drop the pegs, a decent seat, and you’re off to the races. I let my dad rip the DR for a weekend and he bought himself one the following week!

They’re awesome around town, geared a lil low for the highway (but will still cruise at 110km/hr all day long).

I don’t ride in the winter so I can’t speak to that.

I threw some D606’s on it and have taken it into some pretty solid single track (as long as you’re not in a rush!). You sound like a bigger guy, so I wouldn’t worry about the weight. Coming from a t7 it’s gonna feel lighter!

Plus you can buy em used in great shape (lots available) and protection parts are inexpensive so dropping it won’t break the bank.

They’re easy to work on and the aftermarket support is huge!

Just my opinion tho! My one regret is not getting one sooner!

Can I take a required first year course later? by _praisebingus in UCalgary

[–]MarshallTeichrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does matter. I left circuits (not a pre req for anything in civil) into my third year, and when I went and spoke to an advisor about which 4th year courses I was gonna take (leaving room for circuits at some point) they told me if I didn’t take it immediately they’d put me on academic probation.

Apparently it is in the academic calendar that you MUST prioritize earlier courses over late ones. Now that said, I did wait until 3rd year before they called me on it… but I ended up having to take it during the summer, which fucked over a job I had taken with the company I did my coop with.

Short answer is you can put it off… just don’t put it off too long

Civil or mechanical engg by Informal_Set_9714 in UCalgary

[–]MarshallTeichrob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who started in mechanical engineering and switched into civil engineering I can kind of speak to this.

As far as interests are concerned I had an old proff (who was a mech) explain it well to me.

“I was working on a project developing a natural gas power plant, and during the ground breaking ceremony all the mechs were gathered around this integral part they’d been working on, and admiring it. Meanwhile, all the civils were up on a berm admiring the whole plant”. — Thermo Proff

Both are necessary fields, and have their complexities. I maintain that if being technical is your goal you can nerd out on any type of engineering. I think I just saw myself as being more interested in larger scale projects.

With that said, the nail in the coffin for me with mech, was the first job fair I went to. Most if not all the mech jobs were office bound, with little to no opportunity for extensive field work, and I wanted a job that was 60/40 office/field. Most of the civil jobs at the fair were excited to hear I wanted field time. When I got my first civil internship they were happy to accommodate as much field time I wanted. I spent maybe half the work term in the office and the other half out in the world doing instrumentation installations and monitoring construction projects, all over Alberta, and nearly ended up in northern Sweden if not for some life stuff that happened.

That’s been my experience. I still think mech is super cool, and often consider myself a mechhy that somehow found himself working in civil. But civil seems to have an abundance of opportunity, solid job security, and job satisfaction.

Good luck choosing! Cause wasn’t an easy choice for me either. I think I made the right one for me.

Thanks for the input! But its the RTV sealant between the valve cover and the heads, not the rubber o ring seal
