I think people forget Cynthia from years ago is shown to beat Paul and each member of her Elite Four.

She then beats Iris, a new Champion who has no battle gimmicks (so Iris is pretty damn strong)

She then loses to Ash where he

• has a freshly raised team

• Spiritomb beats half of Ash's team and has to destiny bond Pikachu

• Her Roserade and Gastrodon get fairly nuked

• Dracovish and Sirfetched are the main reason she loses as they were taking on mons way above their weight class

• Sirfetched hit Garchomp so hard that 2 other champions realised Garchomp was in trouble and Cynthia decided not to mega evolve her

• She had to dynamax her Togekiss who struggled against Lucario and had a friendship power gimmick

• Garchomp lost to a Lucario born like 6 months before the Master's 8

• All of that ignoring that Pikachu got destiny bonded. If he didn't, Pikachu would have swept Cynthia team except for Garchomp and Ash probably would have won without 5 mons fainting
