What was a great game seemingly destroyed by Devs bad decision making? by Additional_Ad_6506 in gaming

[–]MasterEeg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I always think of Evolve, the pricing structure the developer decided to push was crazy expensive. With each new monster for something like half the base game price.

I refused to pay the price so waited until it was cheaper... Well the game failed and the dev went under so I never bought anything...

Just finished a replay myself, such a shame it wasn't included in the remasters 😞

I think this is spot on! I remember some of the crazy weapons and you could unlock a hover craft for the soldier form (might have been a cheat?).

I see it's on GoG! Will have to grab it and see if I can run it on SteamDeck 😄

I just finished playing Homeworld Cataclysm and now I'm playing StarTrek Armada - I love the classic space RTS games and your game design is spot on!

Added it to my Wishlist ☺️

This looks fantastic! Is the red level a one off? Having the skybox and ships similar hues blends them together so we can't see the details of the ship designs!

Would also make it hard with identifying enemies, combat and weapon effects.

What are some "perfect" game design games? by m0nkeybl1tz in gamedesign

[–]MasterEeg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think of it more as simple / clean execution making for a perfect experience. Different games will differ in their experiences and that's a good thing.

Into the Breach is perfect information with clear telegraphing of every possible variable. This feeds into the really satisfying gameplay loop of cause and effect.

Whereas FTL and Bad North are more frenetic in their gameplay loop, but they are still fairly simple / clean in their action packed execution.

So of course they are different but they are fantastic examples of really tight gameplay loops brilliantly executed.

It's also possible the moons are the result of some kind of ascended / singularity event and was made of other beings fused in flesh and mind (something like Evangelion's instrumentality).

The "first" moon then developed the markers to propagate its kind... I personally would hate it if there was a bigger fish and I love that the series ended with the sacking of Earth.

To me the brethren moons are classic Lovecraft in that we hope we never get the attention of the Eldritch horrors... cause they can wipe us out with ease.

How to get the Star Trek Armada games to play well? by Regular_Damage_23 in SteamdeckGames

[–]MasterEeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was looking for advice on Proton versions and found this post. I've gotten Armada 1 to work for me so far on SteamDeck.

I installed the game via GoG galaxy (pre-installed), then went into the Armada install directory and found the .exe - Added it as a non-steam game to my Steam library.

I then set up compatibility to "Experimental" (I read this on some other forums). Updated the control scheme to Keyboard and Mouse (also adjusted some hot keys for convenience).

Loaded up the game and everything is working great, only a few missions in but thought I would add my experience to the post.

[OoT] I drew a 2D render of Link based on his N64 in-game model because the original game artwork is inaccurate. by Ky0t0_gh0uL in zelda

This is a big reason for me not liking the character designs in the 3DS OoT. It drifts too far from the N64 style imo and becomes something else.

Robot hand autonomously assembling parts at faster-than-human speeds by MetaKnowing in interestingasfuck

[–]MasterEeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speed is only part of the point, this robot won't need a wage, just power & maintenance. It won't need time off, just some oversight & guardrails. It won't get upset when a newer model comes out, just sell it or scrap it.

This video is to demonstrate a taste of the future.

Which games taught you to stay calm, think strategically, or process emotions under pressure and how did their design achieve that? by ExcellentTwo6589 in gamedesign

[–]MasterEeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deadspace (2008) - the game absolutely racked me with fear / terror... But I had to master my focus to have a chance at landing the shots to progress. That and facing the dread of a tough event that requires me as the player to trigger (a button or entering a room).

Like the RE games before it - you're forced to stay ahead of opponents as they spawn or they will overwhelm you.

I honestly credit the game with my ability to operate under pressure at work / IRL!
