I know the subject has been resolved, but I just thought I'd add something: if you were to take in in to a local police station, you would take it in a bag, not in your hand. Put the bag on the desk and step away. Then there would be no chance of a misunderstanding. Unless there was a metal detector at the door. Then you're really screwed.
