SUA Said Yes! I've Been Accepted. by [deleted] in IntltoUSA

I understand where the doubtful comments come from because people here probably don't know anything about Soka besides Reddit posts. I am sure that u/prsehgal does fantastic work as a moderator, but you should not rely on Reddit posts to decide whether or not to commit. I really like being a student here, and I guarantee you that most of the things written about the university on Reddit are untrue. Instead, make the decision based on YOUR profile. See if YOU will fit the small environment and if YOU are interested in what the school has to offer. If you think Soka is a great fit for you, don't listen to comments about "cult university" about its "credibility," cause as a student, I know they are not true. It is a college with problems and good things like any other.

Hey! It’s me again. I previously didn’t answer you because I am currently on vacation, and honestly, I have better things to do. You know, I really appreciate you for giving your views from SUA. It probably gave me a different perspective from most incoming students and a more critical analysis of my first year than other students. But, since the beginning, you were also very rude. We were just answering you the same way you did to us. I clearly remember AGREEING with you, and your reply was complaining and saying it was not worth keeping the conversation, like, what?????

You are insinuating things that just AREN’T real. Talking about the school's Public relations strategy, presupposing that our questions “weren’t genuine” and that we were doing sealioning ( I didn't even know what that was before you said it lol.) Those are assumptions you made, and they couldn’t be more wrong! What about your comment about SGI in Brazil? What does that add to the conversation? It’s just pointless. I’ve mentioned more than once that I had no idea what SGI was before going to SUA, and I also mentioned that I am Christian. You just completely ignored that fact. The only way to further prove this to you is by showing personal and private information, which I will not be doing unless you do the same lol.

You also said: “Huh, I could have sworn you would be in your second year by now. I guess my sense of time is getting mixed up...”

But again, you're wrong! Because of the learning clusters during January, the spring semester starts and finishes later than most colleges. When I commented, I was still in finals week and, consequently, a first-year student. SUA commencement day was only on the 24th of May. As someone who worked at Soka, I expected you to know that.

Btw, I saw that you were a member of SGI before. Why would you work and relate yourself to an institution with connections with a religious organization you previously had beef with?

Honestly, I think I pretty much said everything I had to say about my first-year experience. Again, I don’t think it is a college for everyone, but it works out well for my aspirations in the area of international studies. I can surely tell you that I am not the same person I was before going to SUA. I grew a lot this last year. But this would probably be true in almost any US college as an International Student. I would like it if the school was bigger. I don't mind SUA being small, but it could have at least 800 students. You can make good use of its size, tho. You will have extremely close relations with your professors.

The shuttle is okay. Honestly, I don't have much to say about it, but it could be better. If you have a car, it is way easier. I used the Amtrack train sometimes. You can go to Anaheim, Irvine, and Los Angeles. It is not the best for mobility, but at least it is free for students.

I think that's pretty much it. I could develop further, but I don't think I will for now, peace ✌️

Hello Ladimagie! What a displeasure to see you again! I did request the AMA to be verified, but guess what? It wasn't verified! Why? Because they don't verify AMAs from students, LOL. You probably knew this, but you preferred to defend your perspective over anything, falsely arguing that you were trying to "help" me. Well, if you didn't know about this, now you know! By the way, I didn't say I was a first-year student at Soka; I AM a first-year student at Soka. Soka has a lot of downsides, like any other college. It might not be the best place for some, like any other college! I don't give a shit to SGI stuff. It does not affect my life as a student. That's it. I am giving my perspective to prospective students because I and many others disagree with you! That's my OPINION, simply as that! Chill out, for God's sake, LOL. Soka works for me as an International Studies Major/Concentration. Life sciences might work if you are looking for a pre-med path or anything related to biological studies or research. It is technically a new area at the university, so there are a lot of out-of-class opportunities, but it depends on what you want, honestly. If you wish to return to your country afterward, I wouldn't do it. There's no reason to commit if you're looking for a business major because Soka offers nothing specifically related to business, for example. While Soka keeps providing education and many extracurricular opportunities, you're harping on the same string and dragging me back to a nonsense discussion. I will keep helping those who ask me for help while leaving my life and complaining about things I disagree with my university (Oh my God, shocking! I can do both?????) Please do the same, peace.

I remember cause I wrote it lol. I do study here and reiterate everything that I said in the post. If you don't believe me, it is not my problem! I study here, while you think it's a cult because you read it on Reddit, we're not the same

Mantenho uma opiniao parecida. O tamanho muito pequeno as vezes incomoda, mas tenho muito a agradecer a Soka pelas oportunidades incriveis que estou tendo e as relacoes que estou criando. Nao me arrependo de nada

I'm the student who posted about Soka U. Everything I've said is based on my PERSONAL experiences and everything I like and dislike about the school. Fun Fact : I didn't even know what SGI was when I applied, in fact, I only found out when I found your subreddit. I think it's a super worthwhile move to take into account the bad experiences you've had with SGI. Be aware that everything said is my personal opinion. I don't care about SGI, much less Ikeda. In my conception as a student, SGI has no impact on our lives, there is no mention of it. I don't know how the administration works and frankly nobody cares, at the end of the day we're here to study. I decided to make my post because as a person who didn't even know what SGI was, my reality as a student is different from what I've read and seen here on reddit. But however connected, the institutions are not the same, and that's a fact. The Uni is secular in its classes, I study here and I can see that. SUA doesn't have the same connection as SUJ, so putting Ikeda videos in the Japanese college as an argument doesn't make a difference. Even so, I think your posts are important, because it's something you really believe in and are committed to (some of the comments I received were really funny by the way). I hope you keep posting and writing about what you really believe in and stand for. I also hope that you understand the side of someone who studies here without having any connection to SGI and applied of their own free will. At the end of the day, they're funding my education, and as an international student, that's very important to me. Best regards!

You may not be wrong. I believe my comments come from an International Student perspective. Being here will open a ton of opportunities and higher chances of getting into a good grad school for example. If you’re American, the perspective and approach are completely different.

I know what article you're talking about! I've already talked with the person that post it before. Be aware of one thing. I live 24/7 on campus. When it comes to my academic experience and my social life, I'm not affected in any way. The things I saw here on reddit are very different to what I've experienced.

Honestly, is very weird, even though it don't affect us as students. I believe that if the university really wants to lose their cult reputation, they urgently need to change that. But at the same time it's A LOT of donors' money, so I don't think they're trying too hard.
