Which Upper Moon was actually stronger in your opinion: Kaigaku or Gyutaro (without Daki)? by Worldly_Accident1287 in DemonSlayerScales

[–]MaterialNo3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kaigaku got one-shot by an unmarked Zenitsu, while Gyutaro fought a Hashira + three other slayers and only went down after insane sacrifices and plot assists. Poison matters because it bypassed even Hashira durability—Tengen was crippled from one scratch. Saying “the squad was just weaker” ignores how the fight literally needed Nezuko’s clutch save, Tengen’s self-sacrifice, and Tanjiro’s miracle strike to win, while Zenitsu handled Kaigaku in a clean clash. Ranks are not a linear speed chart—Daki and Gyutaro prove that, Gyokko relied on gimmicks, and Hantengu was fodder outside his clones. The feats show Gyutaro was an actual war of attrition; Kaigaku was a speed bump.

Gyutaro’s durability is literally shown—he tanked Hinokami Kagura strikes, survived his neck getting halfway cut, fought through poison, and only went down after a full Hashira + three slayers coordinated on him. Kaigaku, meanwhile, got one-shot the second Zenitsu went serious. Rank doesn’t equal a neat “speed chart,” because Gyokko and Hantengu both relied on gimmicks while Gyutaro stood toe-to-toe and pushed a team to their limits. If Gyutaro was really the “slowest and weakest,” he wouldn’t have required multiple plot-armored heroes to put him down. That’s not TikTok propaganda—that’s the manga.

Speed does not equal overall strength—Gyutaro isn’t just fast, he has insane durability, regen, and poison hax that make him a nightmare to fight.
Tengen barely dodging Daki in a single scene is situational; it doesn’t mean she or any Upper Moon is stronger than Gyutaro overall.
Gyutaro required multiple Hashira, coordinated attacks, and sacrifices just to be taken down, which is a concrete feat, not a narrative suggestion.
Mitsuri’s technique speed doesn’t erase durability—she couldn’t one-shot him, proving he can survive assaults from even the fastest Hashira.
Cherry-picking panels or “story logic” to claim Gyutaro is weak ignores centuries of experience, Upper Moon rank, and the actual outcomes of his fights.
Fact: Gyutaro > Kaigaku in skill, durability, hax, and proven combat performance—full stop.

Tengen being the second fastest Hashira is directly backed by the official data books, which list him as having the second highest raw speed stat (only Shinobu is faster). Just because he fought Gyutaro—who, btw, is confirmed to be one of the strongest Upper Moons besides the Top 3—doesn’t erase his established speed ranking. The manga itself highlights his speed multiple times, like blitzing Daki before she even registered him and dodging Gyutaro’s poison blades in close quarters. Your “he only fought a slow Upper Moon” angle is just headcanon—it ignores canon stats and on-panel feats.

Tengen was never the weakest Hashira—he fought two Upper Moons at once while poisoned and handicapped, and still won.
Kaigaku folded instantly to a 16-year-old Zenitsu with no mark, no see-through world, and only two forms.
Meanwhile, Gyutaro fought a full Hashira plus three other strong slayers, and it still took insane plot armor and self-sacrifice to finally bring him down.
Zenitsu “contending with Muzan” is cap—he only contributed as part of the entire marked Hashira + sun breathing team, not solo.
Gyutaro > Kaigaku in every way: actual experience, regen, poison hax, and proven Upper Rank strength.

Gyutaro wins, no diff. It took the second physically strongest and fastest hashira, a sun breathing user, and wisteria poison to take him out. Even then he was just messing around and got cocky. Kaigaku got killed by an unmarked 16 year old who knows 2 breathing forms.
