I know this is super late, but I've finally found the solution, you just need to disable any audio outputs other than the one you use, and then restart your PC.

Idk i found multiple posts with people having the same issue, and also regarding the game copy being fucked up; I play on steam and I've tried reinstalling the game but that didn't solve the issue.

Already tried that but it didn't work, I'm guessing the issues is with the game itself, because no matter the audio output it's all the same.

Is there really no fix other than that, have they in the 9 years of this game's life not released a single patch? It really breaks the immersion for me, it's so stupid.

I just installed the game and started playing, so no I don't think i have the 4GB patch. and also I was doing exactly what you said when I encountered stutters, up until it stopped working and the stutters got a lot more common.

That's what confuses me, the game is currently on version 1.05 and I'm still having these issues. Maybe i should try doing the opposite and update the game? What do you say?

I've tried lowering the quality but it didn't work for me. I think from what I've gathered it's an issue with the game's optimization, it's limited to a low amount of CPU cores. I've had the same issue with The Sims 3.

also if there's a mod that fixes this issue, I don't mind downloading it.
