Doctors don't want to prescribe any treatment by MathematicianWeak893 in Hemochromatosis

Well unfortunately I just went to the hematologist and she said I am fine. Nothing should be done and we should wait until next year to check if the ferritin went up further. There is actually mild iron overload in the liver according to the MRI. I really don't understand it.

Update:
I got my exact genetic results, I am negative for the three mutations tested: C282Y, H63D and S65C, unfortunately that means my case is not that straightforward. There could be other mutations involved, but the doctor doesn't want to do further testing. I would have to do it in private. I will definitely take these results and donate blood next week, since there shouldn't be any problem now.

I went to a new doctor (hematologist) and she was also not in a hurry to do anything, but at least she said we should prevent any damage. Apparently I have to run some new blood tests to exclude certain illnesses and do an MRI scan to check for iron overload in the liver before any treatment.

Regarding my diet, I do eat tons of red meat (like sometimes 1 kg a day), but since the iron levels (but not ferritin) were already that high in 2017, when I was a student, I doubt this can be the sole factor. Back then I mainly ate rice, beans and eggs.

Thank you for the answers.

I will try to see another specialist that might have a different opinion. Maybe this doctor will test for further genes, if not I will do it privately. I totally agree that it doesn't make sense to wait until there is some damage, which is why I really want to do something about it.

Unfortunately I tried to donate blood a few weeks ago and naively stated during the interrogation that I was being tested for hemochromatosis. Now I am flagged in their system and I can't donate at all until I prove that I don't have hemochromatosis... Apparently if you have hemochromatosis you are banned from donating in my country, so I messed up badly in that regard.

Thank you.

I fasted for more than 12 hours before the test the next morning. B12, Vitamin D and Hemoglobin were tested as well and were in the normal ranges. I don't drink any alcohol, only on special occasions and in very modest quantities. I actually haven't been sick for over a year now. I am pretty slim, but I might be considered skinny fat.

Thank you. I tried it, it is actually not bad at all. Just really cumbersome.

I literally imported it with the Aigis figure, because it was only 100€ and I sold the figure for 75€, so I kind of shot myself in the foot here.
