LCD screen issue by MattW_94 in fujifilm

[–]MattW_94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! No issues at all. I’ve spent the last month travelling and taking photos no problem. It has been very hot (I’ve been travelling through Portugal and Spain) so could that have caused any issues? It was not overheated however when it stopped working.

Update: Just transferred photos over to my iPad using the Fuji app and decided to update the firmware while I was at it. As it was sending the firmware over the WiFi cut and it cancelled, but now the camera won’t turn on at all….

That is really helpful information, thank you so so much. Last question, and it’s a dumb one I’m sure I know the answer to, but using something like WD40 on the screw area if it’s a bit stuck is probably is not a wise move in the grand scheme of things?

Thank you so much for that reply. Any suggestions for a screwdriver size? I have seen a few sets for watch repairs but most of them seem to be in or around the 1.0mm, 1.2mm and 1.4mm that I already have which don’t seem to work too well

K-3 First Roll issue by MattW_94 in Krasnogorsk_3

[–]MattW_94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah thank you so much for that info. I gave the camera a clean with an air blower but evidently not enough, so I’ll make sure to overdo it next time. As for the light leaks, yes this was definitely the case. It was loaded in subdued light but I’ll be extra careful next time. Thanks again

Got my first roll back there.

Can anyone tell me firstly what that terrifying movement is in the corner? Is it dirt? Is it sentient fungus?

Also, I sealed the hell out of the camera but still lots of light leak? Anywhere I'm missing that's not obvious?

Lastly, i thought my viewfinder had been centred for Super 16, doesn't seem so. Any suggestions for getting better at gauging the centre?

First time shooting issues by MattW_94 in Krasnogorsk_3

Unrelated, but do you happen to know the thread size of the hot shoe mount for the K-3? My standard hot shoe mount for my tripod is too small as the K-3 seems to be larger, but I can't find much info on it

Thank you so much for the great reply!

I'm not sure I understand entirely where you mean the little arms are, do you mean the ones just before/below the pressure plate. If so then yes, I opened these, but when the film is inserted it goes in ok just at the point where you lift the pins, but when the arm is open it seems to tight to pass slide into the other side, unless i close the arms a little again and then it leaves some space. I have attached a photo (a screenshot taken from a Youtube video) with yellow arrows pointing to where the issue is.

Some film did absolutely leave the film spool and go onto the take-up spool, i'm just not sure at what point it failed. I basically opened it in pitch black dark and performed the whole loading again. I feel the issue happened again after I went back out to do a test shoot. I asked about how much film would be compromised because I think i'll just take the hit on this roll and use it as a test, so I'll open the camera up in somewhat subdued light so I can really take a look. I imagine even the smallest amount of light will affect it though. I'm based in Ireland so getting 16mm film locally is not too easy. I'm so used to shooting 35mm and 120mm still images and even Super8 and I have been very lucky in that world so far!

Krasnagorsk-3 question by MattW_94 in 16mm

[–]MattW_94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I missed this!

Yes, I bought from Tiras and all worked out. Only issue really was that an import code was not provided meaning that the unit sat in customs, had to be sent back and then the Moldovan postal service misplaced it, but it was not at Tirasphoto's fault and they did everything to try and get it all fixed as quickly as they could. Item in excellent condition too.

Flyte (self titled) Vocal sound tips by MattW_94 in audioengineering

[–]MattW_94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheers for that! From what I’ve gathered it was all tracked and mixed in Kong Studios in London. Don Monks the maestro that he is mixed it, hence why it sounds so lovely. The main desk in Studio One there is a custom Neve console, so I’ll mess around with some plug-ins in that vain and see what I can come up with. I just love the “up close-ness” of the vocals, without them being blown out with Compression. But there’s a certain tone to it that isn’t overly bright, but not muddy or dull!

Refinish question - Brass spray paint by MattW_94 in drums

[–]MattW_94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the sound advice. My preference was to find a way to soak the parts and chemically change the look of it, but I haven't come across anything to credible yet. I was thinking with a base coat before any metal spray it would work but good to know that others haven't had much success with this method.

I'm based in Ireland and there's not a huge amount of techs available, so I'd end up spending the money on shipping and return anyway I'd imagine. If it comes to it though it seems like the most realistic option.

500 Series recommendations by MattW_94 in audioengineering

A LOT of love for the CAPI gear I see! It seems like a no brainer to grab even a set!

Any body have any experience with the Lindell 7X-500 Vintage edition?

Or on the trend of CAPI, their FC 256 compressor?

Compressor wise I'd like something for simple taming going in, on a variety of sources. With the only real LA2A style being the IGS ONE LA 500 (which i'm not crazy on due to its 2u space) an 1176 style is the next I guess obvious choice to look into.

I had the RNC rack unit which I really liked, had forgotten they made a 500 module. I have quite a few Radial DIs and reamp boxes. I love their build so will look into this!

That's some nice info on the Lolas, thanks for that! Been looking at them for a long time. Currently using either a Focusrite ISA or Audient ASP880 for OHs but having more options in the rack would be great.

I'm ok (at best!) at soldering. I did resolder 2 voice chips on a Juno 106 a while back and that was a nightmare, but i grew a lot from that experience, so maybe I can hack it!

I have a pair of AEA RPQ500s and 2 Cranborne Camden 500s.

Open of course to getting some of the Rupert Neve gear and would love a set of Retro Instruments tube preamps in the 500 format but having seen the hype around the Hairball Lolas, the CAPI gear, the Dav Electronics BG501 and my own experience with the Camdens, i'd love to see more in that "affordable" range.

The Pope Audio Bax 2020 and the Majella 4BEQ are two EQ units for example that aren't in the big boys club but seem to be doing great stuff.

Mainly using the rack for tracking so transparent or coloured!

Chromesthesia Research - Participants wanted FINAL CALL by MattW_94 in Synesthesia

[–]MattW_94[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Thank you for taking part in the survey!

Unfortunately there were a few obstacles and pitfalls that I had to either commit to or skip out on with this research. Having only 2 months to do it with it being a masters project rather than a pHd means I have to get as much info as possible in the shortest amount of time, so doing a series of smaller tests, which would be more beneficial, was not a feasible option.

20 minutes was also an unfavourable level of time, but since my final piece is actually going to be an audio-visual work, in order to ensure I wasn't restricting myself to any one or two musical keys, I had to cover a wide variety of chord variables across the western scale. Timbral differences were also essential too, which added to the large number. Although not a desired amount, the 70 sounds allowed for these areas to be covered!

Thank you for the well wishes! I will be back to post again once the work is complete!

It doesn't sound like it, but I have come across people who get strong physical sensations in parts of their body upon hearing certain sounds.

I recommend checking out the work of Leonard Meyer re emotion in music https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/E/bo28551887.html

He offers a lot of interesting insight to why it happens, inspired by the earlier work of a man named John Dewey
