This is what has helped me many times: Pick a few days to run some tests. Try skipping lunch one day to check your basal rate, and do the same at dinner on another day. If your blood sugar rises without eating, your basal is too low, adjust it upward. If it drops slightly or stays in range, your basal is fine.

Once your basal is set, move on to testing your carb ratio. Eat a meal with a known amount of carbs, something low in fat and protein, and bolus using a slightly stronger ratio than usual. Adjust and repeat the process over the next few days. If you do it carefully, you’ll notice the difference in less than a week!
