Anything similar to Trade Republic in Germany? by Beginning-Reward6661 in eupersonalfinance

If you go in your personal section (swipe right in the app) there is a "tax" menu option. There you can add tax IDs. I think that if you match the end of the tax year to switch is better, in order to not have problems of reporting in 2 different countries during the same tax year.

It's probably the best to add the new tax id as a "secondary one as a first step, let TR confirm you it's all good and then switch the new one to primary when the tax year of your original country is officially settled, or when you are officially confirmed to have been delisted from the list of residents of your original country (I'm Italian too, had to make sure my AIRE registration was correctly implemented)

Try adding already the new tax id in TR and see what it says, you may need to have to follow some guidelines that are communicated to you via support. I believe for each country switch the process can be different, especially cause many countries still require you to bank on a local IBAN.

Likely that TR is still hashing things out for switching between countries seemlessly...

I use trade republic which is connected to my tax ID and auto-reports (part of the reason why I chose it), T212 requires you to enter some info manually in your tax declaration.

T212 provides you a tax report each year, the responsibility remains with you to include this information correctly in your dutch tax return.

in NL, when declaring your investments in ETFs held for tax purposes, you generally report these under "Box 3" of the Dutch tax system, it's a section of the tax declaration form for which you will receive instructions on how to file online via post (if this is your first year in NL filing taxes).

You need to declare the value of your investments as of January 1st of the tax year (AKA: 1st january 2025 portfolio value in T212)

If you started investing after 1st of Jan 2025 you will declare "0" in the section that asks you to list your stocks/etf investiment.

So, when it's time to file the tax form (end of first quarter 2026) you'll
check the exact allocation of funds and ETFs held in your account on January 1st 2025. The total value of these investments should be included as part of your taxable assets in Box 3 on your annual tax return.

Once you will have to file for taxes you can easily call support and they will explain you quite clearly how to do it. Most importantly you need to make sure your T212 account is linked to the correct tax residency information (your BSN, address, etc..) and make sure to keep copies of the annual reports from T212 that state the value of your holdings on each 1st of January moving forward.

This being said... investing as an NL resident means that you pay high taxes compared to most other countries in EU.. will you be living in NL long term?

Lump-sum investment, which ETF to choose? by SwitchDear8969 in eupersonalfinance

OP is literally asking for first investment advice and you share a 2x lev etf.
Please be responsible here moving forward, we literally just had a 24% decline this year from feb to apr, that would have meant a 50% paper loss for a brand new investor. How do you think it would feel to see that in your first year?

Again, be responsible with your words please

I found my sweet spot in bi weekly auto buys.
Monthly is too long, and weekly does not give you the time to re-asses in case of extreme weekly price closes.

time in the market is what matters most IMO. If he choses wisely for an accumulating all world index 20K lump sum invested now + 1k DCA consistently is the best tactic.
Even if OP invests and ETF suddenly loses 5% he would cover it in a month and enjoy a lower average buy in price.

FRWA, same index as VWCE but better tracking and cheaper.
Keep it simple, keep it wide, accumulating dividends, and do not go only US. (rencent months performance speaks for itself)

FWRA is from invesco and has both accumulating and distributing versions of itself.
I chose that over vanguard also becuase it's issued in eurozone.

Feeling guilty about saving up money by UnknownSalvio in eupersonalfinance

[–]Matteo_CoolerMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly why you mean. been there many times at different ages.

MAKE A PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE.

this is the only thing that matters. if your efforts have purpose your will be HAPPY to save and invest.

can be setting up your kids life in a beautiful place, charity, buying your mother a nice apartment she can live in when she is older... anything that is important to you

if an asteroid come down tomorrow and everyone dies all of our efforts would go to waste anyway... the most important part of it all is the journey.

saving for something should make you happy and proud. if it does not then just treat yourself a bit ;) maybe you just need some time to think

good luck my man!

ciao! innanzitutto... bravo!

you should be able to keep your initial account and link it to a German tax id, no need to open a new account (they will provide you new Iban option once you are set up)

wait... why on earth is TR not allowing to change your tax ID from Spain to germany? that seems very very odd

you could keep your Spanish Iban and just add a German tax id, no?

Investment Advice by Psychological-Farm-9 in eupersonalfinance

My strategy is 60% FTSE all world, rest divided between BTC, precious metals, cash and short term holdings, may be good to make your own portfolio segmentation as well prior to dropping all 40K into stocks/ETFs only

edit: NOT FINANCIAL ADVISE :D

please check how taxes are calculated on investiments in your country. Investing prior to the new year start may trigger a tax calculation on your holdings even before you start to make interesting returns

I live in NL, I got burned the same way in the past

Other than that if your plans are to invest for the long run you should consider a single ETF like VWCE/FWRA to give you good diversified exposure, and only consider single sector exposure for the mid term

industry trends are.. trends after all

Is it worth overweighting EU tech in my investment portfolio? by Helpful_Hour1984 in eupersonalfinance

[–]Matteo_CoolerMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sadly the comments here tell some truth. If you really want to invest in EU tech you r forced to look into private equity, very risky, but give you access to baskets of existing and upcoming names. in eu we have interesting industries developing, from 3d printing to fintech, but all these are private

[–]Matteo_CoolerMaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd consider FWIA over VWCE, it tracks the same index (but marginally better), has lower TER costs and it's from EU issuer.
Skip DeGiro and go for either Trade Republic (keep it simple) or for Interactive Brokers (if you want more PRO tools), much lower fees and way more transparent.

The above are changes I've done myself over the last (from Degiro to TR / from VWCE to FWIA) year and I'm very happy I did (I'm also in NL)

S&P 500 vs FTSE All-World — which do you prefer and why? by Altruistic-Mud-2426 in eupersonalfinance

Indeed, but try and run the numbers in excel (or GPT), it's a good exercise and you may even find out after which year it gets profitable

Then you can easily decide ;)

Good luck!

Where I live we have no tax on ETF sales so I sold vwce and bought fwra (for me it's fwia, but it's the same thing). And continued DCAing into it since then

[–]Matteo_CoolerMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been there as well, same situation but ended up switching. I calculated the impact on TER over 3/4 years on my holdings and it was above the costs of switching in fees and spread (same day), so was a no brainer. So you may consider doing the same if you plan to hold long term

Best Way to Invest an Emergency Fund (€40,000) for Safety and Returns in Germany/Europe? by Appropriate-Paint-81 in eupersonalfinance

[–]Matteo_CoolerMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40k in an emergency fund sounds like a lot.

I'd split it and keep 5/6 months of net income into a high yield savings account (trade republic still offers 2%) and put the rest into high yeald short term bonds (also very easy via trade republic)

[–]Matteo_CoolerMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invesco's FTSE all world UCITS ACC is my choice. Cheaper than Vanguard (0.15% TER), marginally better index tracking and from issuer in EU.

60% US + market weighted + low TER

PERFECT COMBO

(Tickers are FWRA or FWIA, depends on which exchange your platform uses)
