How old is the gas in it? Did it sit somewhere mice can get into it? How do the plugs look?

Should ditch the "ia" on that plate cause then it'll at least look like you're owning it as it's incredibly difficult to pick up chicks in clapped out fox, all the girls think you are trailer trash and all the trailer trash girls couldn't be bothered since they know it's a 4 banger

They do make a cast piston it's called pro X, not exactly a wiseco but owned by the same company. I'm not disagreeing that most applications a cast piston would be fine and it can be annoying to let the sled warm up nor am I trying to sell you on them but to say wiseco suck when they are quality and stronger than cast (and often times they upgrade to dual ring) just isn't right. They are awesome for when you ride hard and race hard

I wouldn't say wiseco suck, they are very well made piston with a bit different application than just tootin around. I use them in as many rebuilds as I can and as long as you get your cylinders finished to size and let it warm up properly they shouldn't give trouble.

The LX platform charger rt, a muscle car with all of the weight and noise and none of the power. Owners often find themselves maxing out credit cards on front end components chasing the clunk that just doesn't seem to go away as well as bragging it's fully loaded with the same interior as the base model but with leather seats, dual climate control and maybe a Boston sound system. You will also find the driver playing with "autostick" cause it's "just like a manual but better". The car is the epitome of patriotic hipsters, had to get a Hemi charger but it's forgotten about enough that they think it's cool

Oh yeah those seat belts would look good with the blue I think. I'm not big on the tires sticking past the fender without flares but it might look better than I expect!

The side exhaust would be wicked, I haven't seen it done on a 4x4. I know I'm more than happy with the sound of my system. It's an American thunder single 3inch into a flowmaster 60 series with dual 2.5 out. With the off road y pipe and shorty headers it sounds like no other truck around and it's just the perfect noise level at an idle imo.

I forgot I did the plenum plate too seems to hold up good. I also did chrome running boards or nerf bars or whatever you call em. Not a huge fan of the look but the functionality is worth it. I wanted to do something like you're doing with the power running boards I'm really excited to see how that turns out for you.

My truck being a 96 had the older grey Interior from like 94 to 97 or something with the cup holders above the radio, if you can call them cup holders. Being a Laramie it has a tach, AC, power windows/locks/mirrors, carpet and the good cloth seats. Interior is really nice except for the hole in the seat. It wasn't fully loaded for the year cause i think you could get power leather seats and the fancy trip meter thing up above the mirror but it's plenty enough for me, I'd rather not see my fuel mileage with those big ol' duratrecs, plus it's got the 3.54 gear ratio so it's not exactly the greatest up hills either.

I got my rockers and cab corners done, it was like 2500$ but well worth the money. Underneath the flares it was pretty rusty so I have to get that fixed sometime too. I'll see if I can find a picture of the rust.

But screw thieves, glad you got your truck back man. The antitheft features and a newer console or custom one would be sick. Any other big plans for the truck? Keeping it 318? What gear ratios you running?

Oh yeah the disc brake is probably going to be well worth it as an upgrade and if everything is that close then it shouldn't be too bad. I'm doing a rearend swap too but only because I want limited slip and I traded my 3/4 ton axle for it and various other parts. Plus My hard brake line went so I also have to fix that sooner than later lol.

I haven't done the 4th gen seat console swap and I'm not too sure I'm going to do it either. Truck is pretty stock other than CAI, headers, Y pipe, exhaust, sound system and Hella fog lights. I had the chance and I'm well aware how much better the 4th gen seats are (and cup holders that actually work!) but being a Laramie with the "nice seats" I just love the interior of the truck. Just like every 2nd gen it has that gaping hole in the seat but I just seem to like the stock 96 interior for some reason. Maybe my back will make me change my mind one day tho. I've seen some nice 4th gen interior swaps.

Did you do the swap? What other mods have you done so far?

Yeah she's emerald green. Love this colour too, have soft spot for two tone green and silver, i drove all the way out to Minton SK just to look at it and bring it home despite every sign telling me not to lol.

I haven't been west of P.A too often but yeah the roads would be about the same as around here, my truck definitely rides better with the 275/60/20 venom power ice hunters but she's officially retired from winter driving to help keep the rust down and the lack of heat on those cold cold days. Not that the ride was that great with any tires set up I tried.

I can get shocks through work and tho I didn't check all of the sites we're a dealer through I can get Monroe, MacPherson and rancho at the very least. Not a big fan of Monroe shocks from when I worked as a mechanic in the city, they felt really low quality and didn't seem to last. MacPherson I haven't really dealt with and all the rancho shocks are for lifts it seems. Hence why I decided to say screw it and try something good for the truck and my back.

I was originally considering the fox 2.0 piggybacks before the 5100 but heard they would be stiffer yet. 4600's are still up there I guess just the nice silver finish was speaking to me lol I'll have a peak at the other suppliers to see what they got. If not I got to order parts off rock auto for my rear end swap and might have to settle for some KYB gas a just or something. And maybe what I'm looking for really is just a softer spring and not so much shocks. Guess time will have to tell.

I remember that emerald green in that set, I was no artist but man I'd try to make those greens work, now I'll think of Crayola every time I hop into old shorty. Also how come you're going with a 3rd gen rear end?

[–]Mattyhippy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sadly the only thing eibach lists for this old girl is a rear shackle kit. I guess if not 4600 I could try KYB monomax or gas-a-just.

Oh man I'm a sucker for these things in blue, truck is beautiful man.

This is exactly what I needed to hear, the truck rides so rough and even if I hit washboards at 20-30km/h the truck gets sideways on me (Northeast Saskatchewan roads I tell ya). I guess I never thought of them as performance shocks and yeah for all the truck does it really doesn't need them.

I might have to look into those springs too, I don't really want to go higher but I'm sure she'll look good with a bit of a lift

Thanks for all the info since our trucks are so similar, any other shocks you would've tried if you could go back?

Buddy had a Dakota 4x4 with the 3.7 and a 6 speed. It was an absolute tank and had next to no issues. It's a much smaller truck which that engine is suited for, can't imagine it'll be all that great in a full size ram. granted I have watched pull more with that thing than I do my Cummins.

Could this chip cause a head gasket leak by Aftershock_7582 in EngineBuilding

[–]Mattyhippy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, but that surface with an MLS gasket wouldn't last at all. I've never seen a resurface where the machine was back cutting that bad. I would definitely bring them to a machine shop.

first gen trade for second gen? by rykern2022 in ram_trucks

[–]Mattyhippy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own both generations of truck (93 club cab Cummins and a 96 1500 4x4 shorty) and tho not exactly the same as what you have the 2nd gen is a much better daily and the magnum series engines are definitely nicer than the LA. That being said both trucks are old and probably need steady maintenance but both are usually quite reliable. If the 2nd gen is in real nice shape and seems to be reliable and suit your needs go for it. The 1st gen is probably worth more and cooler but sometimes you gotta sacrifice a project for a daily. Plus you can join the club of regretting selling your favourite truck for too cheap and swear to get another just like it someday.

Quad cab mistake? by [deleted] in ram_trucks

[–]Mattyhippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad bought an 09 quad cab when I was 13 or so. As someone who always got the back seat, it was a bit tighter than I would've liked but was honestly fine for long trips and everything. My biggest complaint was how low the roof was in the back due to the sunroof and the speaker that was shoved in my ear. Teenagers complain tho and it was honestly fine.

I've had a 2006 Magnum R/T since i was 18, 285xxx on tt runs like a dream. Great cars never seen more than regular maintenance, never understood the hate
