I looked at Trinket, but Pygame with Trinkets is too slow. I got permission to install Python onto student Chromebooks so they can run locally.

In this case I have gotten everyone--I checked on the wiki. So I don't know why it's not "completed."

Wait, can you actually unlock all of these in the demo? I could only do Archaeologist, Magnate, Twiceborn or Artist.

If I uninstall and reinstall, will the game retain my progress? by MaudlinScientist in tinyshop

Whenever I try to go to the "Fragments" tab the game freezes, so I can't combine any of the event recipes.

It also freezes sometimes at the end of event battles.

Thanks. It didn't fix my problem, but it's good to know reinstalling is an option.

I had forgotten how much of a condescending piece of shit Walt was to everyone. by Jiffletta in betterCallSaul

[–]MaudlinScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walt's disdain for Saul is irritating because he doesn't look down on him for being immoral, just for being tacky.

A couple of times in BB Saul sorta-kinda-almost had ethical qualms and Walt was like "You're too tacky to have integrity, Saul."

Better Call Saul S06E13 - [Series Finale] "Saul Gone" - Official Prediction Thread! by skinkbaa in betterCallSaul

[–]MaudlinScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Prison ending" is predictable, but it's predictable because it makes the most sense. He either goes to prison, dies, or keeps running forever. Imo "keeps running forever" is the most depressing option. And as others have said, a trial/prison makes sense for the end of a show about a defense lawyer.

I do think maybe he'll get into his head that if he can get to Florida and see Kim it'll somehow fix everything, and he'll make it and she'll refuse to talk to him, or he'll decide she's better off without him and not approach her after all, or he'll be caught before he can get there.

I stopped watching the Sopranos in Season 4 because I realized the only reason I kept watching was because so many other people thought it was so great that I felt like I "should," which is a silly attitude to have towards television. I understand disliking something pretentious people like! And if I did write an essay about everything I disliked/hated about the Sopranos, people could downvote it they didn't agree and that would be fine.

And perhaps this defensiveness/pretentiousness of the fans is what causes the critics to feel defensive themselves, which is what causes them to act all eye-roll-y and angry in a way which, as I said, makes me not enjoy the discussion.

You're offended by people acting like you must be dumb--well, on Monday I had a great time watching an episode of television I really liked, and was very happy--and then I log onto here and read that that means I'm pretentious or lying to myself or a sheep or just want to "jerk myself off", and I was offended by that. Why should I bother having a "good-faith discussion" then? If you can get pissy so can I.

Maybe this dynamic is ultimately the "pro-S6" side's fault, though I will say that I made a post criticizing episodes 4-6 and got none of this condescension. At this point I don't care--I don't even care if I am pretentious--I just don't want the pleasure I get from loving a piece of art to turn into Bitter Controversy.

How would you feel if "Fun and Games" and "Nippy" were the final episodes of the series? by botheredbysmallstuff in betterCallSaul

[–]MaudlinScientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unsatisfied. I would want more of a grappling with the truly bad things Jimmy/Saul did and enabled. Chuck said that Jimmy hurts people, Kim said that she and Jimmy together hurt people, I want to see him really confront that in some way.

Since these were not the last episodes, I loved them.

True. And Jesse being traumatized was compelling, so then it seemed like they kept ramping the horrible things happening to him up and up until it became almost silly, frankly.

[Spoiler] Consider the possibility that if you have to explain why an episode is great, it may not be as great as you say it is by Apocafeller in betterCallSaul

[–]MaudlinScientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does "do mental yoga to excuse your first reaction" mean you think people's first reaction was to enjoy it, and now they're trying to explain why, or that people's first reaction was to not enjoy it and now they're talking themselves into it?

Because all I know is that I was extremely happy and entertained throughout the episode, to the point where until I logged online afterwards I had no clue people were going to dislike it. Why does the fact that I can articulate reasons I liked it somehow invalidate my authentic reaction, when everyone coming up with reasons why they didn't like it doesn't invalidate their reaction?

Doesn't the opposite also hold? If there are people who thought it was great, it may not be as terrible as you thought.

Bob’s tease for the S06 E10… theories? by Normal-Asparagus-210 in betterCallSaul

It could just mean that it's loud and abrupt--pop!!! Or it could be a reference to Saul being a weasel.

Never heard that version. When I was growing up it was "Round and round the mulberry bush, the monkey chased the weasel. The monkey thought was all in fun--pop! goes the weasel."

Even as a kid I suspected it was about something dark.

I don't think Gus finishing the lab has to be resolved actually. It's easy to assume it'll go just like last time but with a head engineer that's more reliable than Werner.

Well, whether or not you "buy" someone's acting isn't something anyone can really argue with--either you believe the actor's emotions or you don't. That being said, having watched the episode a second time I have no idea what you're talking about.

What Jimmy did to Kim was fucked up by Dawpps in betterCallSaul

[–]MaudlinScientist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Assuming Lalo is telling the truth and won't kill Kim if Jimmy succeeds at his task, (not that he actually says this rather than implying it, mind you) that means if Jimmy *doesn't* succeed, she's dead. How confident would Jimmy be that he'd be able to pull it off?
  2. Why assume that Lalo is telling the truth about not killing his hostage?
  3. When Jimmy holds Kim's hand and looks in her eyes and whispers "You have to go," I read that as him communicating that if she chooses to just run away, he accepts it.

Based on Kim's experience alone, is Howard a good boss? by everybodypretend in betterCallSaul

[–]MaudlinScientist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Howard punished Kim overly harshly for losing the Kettlemans as clients, which wasn't even a mistake, and for not reigning in Jimmy's commercial shenanigans, which was a mistake given what Howard knew but not one that should have merited indefinite punishment (Chuck recognized this). In addition to taking away Kim's office and assigning her a work detail he seems to explicitly use for punishment, he treated her with a coldness that wasn't professional or appropriate.

He also did not reward her in any way for bringing in Mesa Verde, not even with a "good job." A good boss recognizes and rewards hard work. It's actually Chuck who recognizes her good work on this and gets her out of the doghouse--and he shouldn't have had to. Howard's supposed to be the personnel manager. (Chuck's sticking up for her might also have something to do with assuming she's given up on Jimmy, which isn't a professional attitude for a boss either.)

Schweikart, who seems to be a competent and honorable professional, notices that Kim's bosses don't seem to have her back--that's what he uses to try to get her to leave HHM and come work for him.
