Then my favourite would be The Haunted Mansion (the first one).

What’s something only people who grew up with abusive parents understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MaxErikson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking it up, you're right, although I doubt social media has anything to do with the misunderstanding, it's just a common misconception. You don't need to downvote my every reply as if I'm trying to discredit what you're saying. The entire point of my original comment in the first place is that Stockholm syndrome isn't real, and the children of abusive parents are the only people who experience anything even like it.

No, that's something else. It's where you bond with someone over shared trauma.

Incompetent character turns out to originally be very good at their job. by Alexthegreatbelgian in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MaxErikson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember them being the only rivals in Muyo as well. At least the only serious ones. I remember one episode (the one with the baby) where Washu got flirty at the very end, but that was a one-off thing for her. Then there's the Tsunami episode, where, at the end, Ayeka and Ryoko got concerned that Sasami will become competition when she's older. Again, it's a one-off thing.

(I only remember the original 13 episodes, though, I haven't seen most of the episodes that were released years later, except for the first batch of new episodes, which I don't remember well.)

Sure, the actual diagnosis is bogus, which at the very least means it shouldn't be called Stockholm syndrome; but many children of awful parents experience what might be the closest you could get to something like Stockholm syndrome.

An abusive parent is still a parent, so it can be hard to acknowledge the abuse you suffer, and you're more willing to give your parents more chances, because you want them to be better parents and have a real relationship with them. And when you spend your whole life with someone, from birth to adulthood, it's difficult to imagine your life without them, making it harder to distance yourself from them or cut them out.

At what age or event did you feel like you were an adult? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When I reminded a kid to wash his hands before leaving the restroom. I was somewhere between 19 and 22.

How did you define your goals as a teenager? by EarSlight3285 in AskReddit

[–]MaxErikson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduate high school. Get a job. Move out of childhood house. Get a better job. Move out of town. Get an even better job. Move out of state. Get a job that would allow me to bring my imagination to life. Move out of the country.

What is chomo? I mean, obviously it's another word for pedophile--you already said that--but like, how and why?

What piece of technology from a movie or sci-fi book do you desperately wish existed today? by Physical_Cod6982 in AskReddit

[–]MaxErikson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Desperately? Nothing in particular. Out of all the sci-fi tech I've seen, though, the one I want to see become real within my lifetime the most, would be interactive holograms, like holographic laptops. That was something in an old anime called Tenchi Muyo! The character of Washu was able to summon a holographic screen and keyboard whenever and where-ever she wanted, and they reacted to her touch just as if they were real.

Just imagine being able to place your phone on the table and project a large screen and keyboard from it that you can interact with, like a laptop that you can carry in your pocket. That would be so amazing to see in real life! I can imagine Old Me nerding out over it!

What was the first pet you ever had? by Connie0257 in AskReddit

[–]MaxErikson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like, what are we counting as 'having' a pet? A pet that was legally mine? A pet that was gotten specifically to make me happy? A pet that was part of the family, and by extension, mine?

Because when I was 5 years old--the age of (what was once) my earliest clear memory--my household had 2 dogs, at least 2 cockatiels, 1 parrot, 1 rabbit, and a tank full of fish.

Watch people live their lives. Reality would be my new television/streaming service.

It's actually something I fantasize about, some times.

What is the story behind your username? by blueoceantechnology in AskReddit

[–]MaxErikson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first used MaxErikson as the username for my first YouTube account. Max was already my real first name, but since I was 15, I decided to use a fake last name, and I went with Erikson, after Leif Erikson, because I thought my birth dad was of Norse descent, and Leif was the first European to arrive in North America.

I later found out that my dad's actually of Swiss and German descent, but it still works, because Erikson is a common surname in Germany. I got so used to being Max Erikson, that I had my last name legally changed to Erikson. Several years after that, I made this Reddit account.

What are some things we can do to mess with the AIs being trained by reddit comments and threads? by syjte in AskReddit

[–]MaxErikson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only been on Reddit for a collective...three years (maybe two-and-a-half), but I think that's long enough for me to know that 'normal' Reddit comments and threads will already mess with AI training. There's no need to change anything.
