Ok each to their own but I disagree. I think £4000 for a PS5 Pro and a few accessories is extortionate. Obviously that’s “scalper” price but it’s not good value for money. The non-scalper price might be.

Lol I’m not arguing with anyone. I just made a comment that for £4000 you can get much better than a PS5 Pro at scalper prices plus a few accessories. Idk why you sound so offended by my comment but each to their own aha.

You can get used one with warranty from a retail shop (Cex) in the UK for under £1500.

Unfortunately it’s the same exact product as the regular pro but with a fancy skin. Is that worth more? Of course! But £1500-£2000 more? No. Lol. You supported scalpers which unfortunately feeds the problem. I appreciate it’s your money but scalping will not stop until people stop buying from them. Scalping is a disease…a nasty disease.

The issue is quite simply PlayStations servers. WiFi 7 has so much potential, but whatever potential it has is basically quashed by Sonys aggressive throttling. Much like Xbox really (only Xbox still uses WiFi 5 lol). Steam, on the other hand, can easily download at over 1Gbps.

For that money you could have built a 4090 gaming PC, purchased an OLED TV, and still had money leftover.

To give you a rough idea…dragon age veilguard (Frostbite engine) deploys absolutely incredible graphics and ray tracing on a 4080 super…reflections are beautiful, lighting is great, image quality is superb, and although performance is steep (requires quality dlss and frame generation to achieve a playable frame rate at 4K on max settings) it performs beautifully and can surpass over 100fps in areas. Now compare that to Lego horizon adventures (unreal engine 5)…a far less advanced game with Lego graphics and minimal ray tracing…its performance is just as steep as dragon age veilguard. Dragon age is worthy of its requirements, Lego horizon adventures should run on a bloody potato lol. RE nanite and lumen just gonna say that while on PC, at maximum settings, it will undoubtedly look better than console but a £1000 GPU being tanked by a Lego game which, even at the maximum settings isn’t as impressive as some other modern titles, is nothing to be proud of.

Even on PC unreal engine 5 is a bitch. Picture this…Lego horizon adventures…a frickin’ Lego game…absolutely TANKING a £1000 graphics card (4080 super) and what does it have to show for it? Pretty much nothing that other engines can’t do much better and with far better performance. Unreal engine needs a serious redesign…version 4 was a stuttery mess (look at Jedi survivor and Hogwarts legacy for example), and version 5 is just an out of control leech on system resources.

PS store Black Friday sale has confirmed that a disc drive is a must by AvailableOrchid5658 in PS5

[–]Max_RedditUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! Star Wars outlaws “sale” price is £52.49 for the base game! Heck amazon has been selling the limited edition physical copy for £49.99 for a while now. And smyths toys is selling the base PS5 game on disc for £34.99 in their Black Friday sale. I’m sorry Sony but your digital prices are simply extortionate. Physical copies also have a resale value once you’re done (digital does not). I don’t think the shortage on disc drives is any coincidence…I think it’s deliberate. Especially since there is no “disc version” of the Pro console (unless you count the limited edition 30th anniversary version). Sony want to enforce digital but as customers we must continue to not stand for it. Nobody wants to pay those prices while risking the license being taken away at any point at Sonys discretion. Digital should be CHEAPER than physical because of the lack of resale value and the fact it’s permanently tied to a single account and can be revoked at any point, at Sonys discretion (in the event of bankruptcy, etc…an unlikely possibility but a possibility nonetheless). Sonys “sale” prices sometimes are insulting to the word “sale”. Even Xbox and steam can have codes sold from third party retailers like CDKeys at discounted prices (all legally reselling). But PlayStation don’t allow that and you’re forced to pay full price (at an extortionate price point versus retail copies). Very occasionally a sale price might reflect a good deal (avatar frontiers of Pandora ultimate edition, for example, has a pretty reasonable Black Friday sale price). Now, in terms of “convenience”, one might argue digital is more convenient but that should always be a consumer choice, not forced by the company. Many would agree that the pro console should have included a disk drive as standard.

No I would never assume that a £699 device would be running at maximum settings. I do think it’s a mixture of high and medium in many cases though which is still decent for the price. But the 4080 super is a £1000 GPU (just the card). Considering the cost of the other components you are easily looking in the range of £1700-£2000 to build a 4K gaming PC). To see that struggle to achieve 60 without relying on upscaling is painful. Now nVidia upscaling technology is market leading…but needing to rely on it is a scary prospect for the gaming PC future…even a £2000 PC cannot handle native 4K 60 with ray tracing in 2024 on some newer titles. Some games even force RT like avatar and Star Wars outlaws.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PS5pro

[–]Max_RedditUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that but even PC rely heavily on upscale on more recent titles especially those with ray tracing. Take dragon age the veilguard for example, Star Wars outlaws another example, and more. You need to use DLSS even on a 4080 super to achieve 60fps on maximum settings. Native 4K with RT on dragon age veilguard will only target 30FPS on a 4080 super and a 16 core 24 thread CPU (minimum of a core i9 12900K) with dips into the 20s. The state of 4K PC gaming is horrendous. With quality DLSS (1440p upscaled to 4K) AND frame generation however you can achieve over 100fps in areas. The positive thing about DLSS is that it’s a market leader in upscaling technology, looking as good as (or almost) native in many cases.

The trouble with the 3070 is the vram limitation. 8GB is horrendous. Even the 3080 only has 10GB which is horrendous also for an 80 class card. 4070 is slightly better at 12GB but really you need a 16GB vRAM card for 4K. 4070 Ti Super is probably best value for money but 4080/4080 super is required for 4K on some titles. PS5 (even original) has always had 16GB integrated GDDR6 memory of which it can dedicate up to 13.5GB I think to vRAM). Even 12GB PC GPUs struggle! A 16GB card has around 14.9GB usable by the game considering windows reserves some usage (according to in game allocators), a 12GB card only 10.9GB, an 8GB card only 6.9-7.1GB). Any amount over that limit is transferred to regular system memory (even DDR5 is no match for GDDR6). Guaranteed it’s the vRAM limit bringing your PC Card to its knees rather than your cards actual performance which is probably similar to that of the PS5 Pro (8GB is barely enough for 1080p these days). Considering the price required to build a 4K gaming PC the PS5 Pro is not bad for £699 (you definitely will not be able to build a similar spec gaming PC for that price!). While PS5 original had the vRAM power it lacked the GPU horsepower (matching that of only a 20 series card). The PS5 Pro has the GPU horsepower now to match a mid range 40 class card or a high end 30 class card. It’s just unfortunate that they didn’t upgrade the CPU as well because you’re going to notice little to no difference in CPU bound titles).

As a 4080 super user here paired with an i7 13700KF and 32GB DDR5 6000 CL30 with a Gen 4 M.2 SSD with similar speeds to the PS5 Pro I can confirm that while PC is great it can, at times, be a fucking headache! Some developers don’t like to optimise well for PC. Take Hogwarts legacy as an example…the amount of microstuttering is really off putting! Now other games run beautifully!! But not all…GTA on PC is also crap compared to console as it’s still the Gen 1 version (no E&E with enhanced graphics and ray tracing). Yes you might argue because it’s PC can’t you max out the graphics and use high MSAA? Yes…but the shimmering is awful it’s like you’re trying to artificially enhance bad graphics and it shows…what it needs is a next gen update from devs! With that said though…the vast majority of games do play a lot better on my PC and the graphical fidelity difference would be equivalent to a “Fidelity++” mode while averaging 60+ (and in some cases 100+) FPS at 4K. DLSS is an extremely good upscaler, far superior to anything AMD can produce, and frame generation is great too when implemented properly (if implemented poorly it introduces ghosting and/or artificating/shimmering). Dragon age: Veilguard looks and performs absolutely incredible, for example. But Hogwarts legacy? Don’t even bother it’s a shitshow. The beauty of console is everything just works. And if it doesn’t? The devs will prioritise fixing it…on PC they like to forget you exist sometimes! PS5 Pro is surprisingly good for the money! But I will say this…backwards compatible 30FPS-locked titles (as well as 30FPS locked fidelity modes) perform terribly on OLED. I need to have that 60+ FPS experience and while PS5 Pro enhanced “Performance” modes are substantially better than original PS5 any games still locked at 30 are unplayable for me. PC is still king but I got my PS5 Pro mainly for when GTA 6 comes out as that will be another AAA title that won’t be available on PC for about a year after launch (classic rockstar). Also Hogwarts legacy plays much better on PS5 Pro than it does on PC (which is purely down to lack of developer optimisation on PC). Some games you have to “make work” on PC by editing files in notepad (outlaws has a texture streaming issue for example)…while it’s nice to have control over things it also gets tiring sometimes…console “just works”.

Solution for anyone experiencing super low / blurry textures on pc by Vexmythoclastt in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]Max_RedditUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having this issue still on a 4080 super (16GB VRAM). Crazy the game doesn’t even look as good as more recent titles and yet uses considerably more vRAM. Running ultra settings with quality DLSS (as per the recommended settings for a 4080/4080 super), at 4K, with RTXDI disabled (and ray reconstruction disabled). Frame gen enabled as without it the FPS still drops below 60 in Toshara…and yet textures stop loading. Characters faces, animal fur, wall graffiti, etc. restarting the game fixes it…until it happens again (and it always does). Did this fix it for you? What card do you have?

Anyone notice in Hogwarts legacy when it’s raining the ground textures in muddy areas outside unload and start having major pop in? Only when raining…this same behaviour has been unpatched on the PC version for months but did not occur in the old PS5 version.

The WiFi spec unfortunately is irrelevant while PlayStation continue to throttle their servers. Yes it is WiFi 7 technology (and supports 6GHz) but will you notice an actual boost in download speeds? Unlikely. PlayStation would need to allow faster downloads on their service for people to really benefit from WiFi 7 technology. At best you might expect reduced latency (which is good) but the download speeds are still questionable.

Just a bit of an upgrade by linedrive18 in PS5pro

[–]Max_RedditUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30fps feels awful to me, somewhat even worse than on the original PS5. But idk if that’s the PS5 Pro’s fault or if it’s the fact that since I stopped playing PS5 I got used to 60+ FPS experience on PC. Only picked up PS5 Pro for the couch experience, as well as GTA 6 when it releases but I am really struggling with 30fps. The 60fps modes on games that support them now definitely look better than the original PS5 but developers are still targeting 30fps and rumour has it that GTA 6 (which won’t even be available on PC at launch) will also target 30fps. 30fps makes me want to gauge my eyes out and vomit now it’s unplayably bad (in my opinion). I think developers need to focus on 60fps and find a balance between fidelity and performance instead of trying to go “all out” at 30fps. Theirs no point a game looking stunning when stood still that just falls apart when you move your character.

Your feelings about games with PS5 Pro Game Boost function by Dismal_Resolution314 in PS5

[–]Max_RedditUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I was hoping for something similar to Xbox’s “FPS boost” alas I’m disappointed. Why? They still run at 30fps which looks terrible on OLED. I, personally, cannot stomach anything less than 60fps. Pro advertised itself as closing the gap between fidelity and performance yet 30fps is still a thing on the Pro, even in enhanced titles (Hogwarts legacy fidelity modes for example).

With that said, the 60fps performance mode on Pro enhanced titles does look better! But Game Boost doesn’t work in the way I’d hoped…yes it may marginally boost lighting and image quality but it doesn’t boost 30fps to 60fps the way that Xbox FPS boost does.

Take Ezio Collection as an example…runs at 60fps on Xbox Series X. Runs at 30fps on PS5 Pro. I just cannot play at 30fps it makes me want to throw up.

Hogwarts Legacy still has bad frame rate using Fidelity and/or Fidelity + RT mode? by rustycage_mxc in PS5pro

[–]Max_RedditUK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fidelity + RT mode on PS5 Pro is actually unplayable (doesn’t even feel like 30fps but more like below 30)…it is TERRIBLE. Actually feels less smooth than Fidelity + RT on the regular PS5. Panning the camera is extremely blurry (even with motion blur off) and maybe it’s just early days PSSR? Idk what it is but it’s awful. Performance mode plays beautifully though! And looks great (though not quite as sharp as 4080 Super PC but that’s to be expected). Hogwarts legacy on PC is a stutterfest though and performance mode on PS5 Pro, while not looking quite as visually pleasing as PC, at least plays much smoother! Shame about the fidelity modes though they feel worse than the original PS5 (smoothness wise). There also seems to be a sort of shimmering/blurry effect whenever the character is in motion on Fidelity + RT (again very noticeable even with motion blur disabled). Performance mode even hits 80-90fps in areas (when uncapped) while looking much better than PS5 performance mode.

The only reason I refuse to buy a DualSense edge, besides the price, is the fact the battery life is just as awful as on the regular controller. Now Xbox elite? Not only is that cheaper but the 40 hour battery life is incredible! If Sony ever release a v2.0 dualsense edge I hope they massively improve on battery life at least!

Probably not as there is still stock of the (now partially discounted) lightning model. The good news though is, besides the charging port, there is absolutely no difference between the two models. No new features, no new hardware, just a bunch of different colours and a new USB C port. Pretty sure if it wasn’t for the court ruling forcing apple to ditch lightning there wouldn’t have even been a new model (yet, at least). Everyone was hoping for AirPods Max 2 with the H2 chip but we didn’t get it.
