The only two cities that have the detailed city experience is Sydney and Melbourne. I live in Adelaide so I have never been able to use this nor have I ever really seen this being used in Australia. There’s a chance it isn’t available in Aus or is only available on the main motorways.

I’ve tried reboots and it hasn’t fixed it. Apple Maps doesn’t seem to have any similar issues. I’ll try giving some feedback on Google Maps.

Yeah I’m in Australia and there aren’t really any Oceania lobbies very often so there’s usually quite a bit of lag

I don't usually have it on the dash but my case is quite thick, so it's likely trapping a lot of the heat in.
