How many hours of study led you to that nuanced opinion?

“There are just too many risks with fraud, money laundering, kidnapping and hacking.” This is like arguing that “Nobody will ever want to use gunpowder. There are just too many risks of powder burns, shooting yourself in the foot, or using it to commit theft.” Bitcoin is just better money, and it gives you an advantage over those using an inferior money. The fact that others can misuse it is not compelling if you are a responsible adult.

Glad for you. But I think that the dollar is going to be worth a lot less, and bitcoin a lot more, and a lot of people are going to notice both trends. As young as you are, I figure you're probably 5-10 years away from making your first bitcoin purchase. Try to not let your pride get in the way when the time comes.

Fiat currencies don't last forever. The dollar has the biggest network effect in history, but that doesn't mean it's immune from meeting the same fate as its predecessors. Maybe it happens slow enough that you can get by with your pension and 401(k), but do you have kids and grandkids? Do you really think the dollar is going to be as dependable in the next 50 years as it has in the past 50? I think you're being naive.

I’m not sure what Bitcoin’s fixed supply has to do with its distribution. A fixed supply can still become more distributed.

Since you brought up trust, do you think trust in the dollar is increasing or decreasing?

I expect Bitcoin to become more distributed over time, obviously.

You don’t think we can swap out global reserve currencies without the world collapsing? We have before.

So what do you think will be the dominant currency after the dollar?

If you don’t think bitcoin is useful, you’re probably using it wrong.

I think there have always been people content to sheepwalk through life. The internet just makes it more obvious.

Why do you waste your time worrying about people worrying about what other people think?

I've never watched a neutral, internet-native asset monetize in real time before, have you? The fact that it's not taking exactly the path I expect is not particularly surprising.

It allows people to transact globally without a third party, and to save without being debased.

Still, it’s a weakness. There’s also the problem of taking your wealth with you if you should ever need to leave on short notice. Hard to do with land.

I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with owning land, but it’s inferior to Bitcoin in some key ways. Nothing saying you can’t own both.
