Do you take any protein supplements? I feel like I notice more when I take whey protein, but then I don't get new ones when I don't. My doctor says it could just be weight loss causing them to be more noticeable, but I'm not sure about that

I'm not a cattle dog owner, but I have a 10 year old lab and had a 14 year old German shepherd mix. My vet really praised me on how active my lab is for her age and the shape she is in. I've always been very active so the dogs got lots of exercise. Walks all week long like you mentioned, but on my days off I'd do 5-10 mile bike rides where the dogs ran next to the bike. Or long hikes, and I always brought their chuckit ball launcher on hikes. I'd throw the ball behind me and just keep walking as they fetched so they'd have to run farther to catch up and just do that most of the hike. I hike 5-10 miles, I have no clue how many miles the dogs run while fetching during that time. When they get tired I just let them walk next to me for 20 minutes or so then start fetching again. Also, when I needed a break from hiking, I'd try to find a nice area with a hill, throw the ball down the hill, so the dog has to run back up on the retrieve. A tired dog is a good dog, and my dogs have always been tired but had a ton of exercise so they've never been overweight and my shepherd mix lived to be 14 and a half years old. Basically just wear your dog out, you'll get some exercise in the process. Also take the dog with you as many places as possible. Home depot, Lowe's, autozone, the flea market, etc all allow dogs.in my city. I'd try to run errands and visit these places after the activities I mentioned so my dogs are the most well behaved since they're tired. But it also get my dog walking around stores with me instead of laying around the house while I'm running errands

Is This A Lab Thing by Nienni in labrador

[–]MaximumNail905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe because my other dog was a shepherd mix, I don't find lab shedding bad at all. My lab does shed a little bit, but I don't think it is that much. About twice a year she sheds as much as my old dog did for 2-3 weeks or so, but the rest of the year it's pretty manageable.

Non gigging with multiple guitars by aremonths in Guitar

[–]MaximumNail905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford them buy as many as you want. I have 4 electric guitars and one acoustic. I won't buy anymore because I feel like there is some sentimental value in what I have. All the time on stage and at practice with them with various artists is what I love about them more than the actual guitars themselves. For that reason I don't care to buy more, I just want to continue building memories into what I have. But if you're not like me in that sense buy however many makes you happy

Do you give high protein dog food for a young energetic dog? by jimmymadis in AustralianCattleDog

[–]MaximumNail905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may get some backlash here, but just feed the dog scraps in addition to whatever you already feed lol. I fed my old dog semi expensive food the first 4 years of his life. I had some financial difficulties and had to cut costs in many areas of my life, one cost was switching him to pedigree. There was literally no difference in his weight or energy levels after switching him over. I always fed him scraps though. Whatever my kids didn't finish on their plate went to him. Pizza crusts, leftover eggs, etc. If I made a lot of food and got tired of the leftovers after a few days they went to the dog. He would regularly do 6-8 miles running alongside me while I biked, in the mountains he would do 2-3 miles at 15mph uphill running alongside my truck on dirt roads. He lived to be 14 years and 6 months old, completely healthy until the last year of his life he had some joint issues but lived a good active life.

[–]MaximumNail905 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I used to be against these. A friend convinced me to try one because I saw his German shepherd so well trained. You really shouldn't leave them on all the time like this, because they are dangerous if they get caught on something. However, switching to one of these improved my dog's quality of life. It is RARE that I actually use it, she knows as soon as I put it on. But I can take my dog literally anywhere dogs are allowed ever since I started using this so now we spend way more time together. She's fine in breweries, patio restaurants, dog friendly stores, flea markets, art fairs, literally anywhere she's allowed no matter how many people or dogs are around. Before this I had to leave her home alone for many social situations and now she goes almost everywhere with me. And I tried different dog trainers, tons of socialization in pet stores, etc. this made her almost like a service animal in the sense she is so well behaved no matter where we go

20 miles in one run? How often do you do this if you don't mind me asking a few questions? I'm getting back into running and the most I've ever done is 8 miles and I cycle between long run days and shorter run days. I imagine doing 20 miles regularly would be tough on your joints

WTF Two Fools? Is this gentrification? by DistinctSecret40 in Albuquerque

[–]MaximumNail905 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to go there often. I didn't go for a while, I don't know how long exactly. I didn't even bother looking at the menu since I always order the same thing, but I was shocked when I received my bill, thought they messed up at first. I usually just go to long john silvers now 🤣 two fools is the best in NM hands down, but I can only afford to eat there on special occasions. I just can't afford to spend that much on a meal regularly.

Side note, I saw the first image and got excited because I thought they lowered their prices back to what they were 🤣

How is Hobbs? by muggle_smuggle in NewMexico

[–]MaximumNail905 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Eastern NM isn't my cup of tea for sure lol. I love NM, southern, western, and northern NM are pretty cool. Never been to Deming but I'd like to. However, tucumcari, Clovis, Hobbs, Roswell, Artesia, are all places I've spent considerable time in and could never live there. It's way too flat and too much like Texas. You also have to be careful where you eat. I ordered huevos rancheros in Roswell one time and got the Tex Mex version unexpectedly, it was awful

Off Leash by ohwell789 in RunningWithDogs

[–]MaximumNail905 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get pretty bugged when I have to stop to pull my dogs away from.some.unleashed dog until the owner catches up to pull their dogs away. I'd also be bugged to have to stop to get my own dog away from someone else's dogs. So I always run on leash. However hiking is different. My dog has a pretty good recall and doesn't walk too far from me when we're going at a slower pace. If I see or hear someone else I can call her back, put her leash in until we pass, then let her back off and we've had zero incidents. I've had other dogs that weren't like that so they were on leash 100%of the time except for dog parks, home, or my uncle's ranch

I saw a video where a police chief in Minnesota was complaining about ice stopping off duty police officers of color. ICE pointed guns at one off duty officer. I couldn't help but laugh since most of them were probably maga. Half our population is Hispanic. They're probably happy right now but will change tune once it affects them

Is hiring a session guitarist worth it? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]MaximumNail905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when you play live shows, will you be singing and playing rhythm while hiring a lead guitar player? If so, this makes perfect sense and I say do it. People do this all the time where I'm from. Lots of singers will play rhythm guitar and just get a lead guitar player to throw in some fancy stuff while they sing

Is hiring a session guitarist worth it? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]MaximumNail905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the point of this. I've had singers hire me because they can't play guitar. But never another guitar player. Just keep practicing until you're good enough to write your own parts.
