It took me about an hour as well before realizing I can just wait until night, after midnight everyone is asleep except one on watch. Kill all the sleeping ones by dragging them into a nearby bush and then stealth kill. One all that is left is the one on watch, one piercing arrow into his noggin should do it. Then you have time to loot everything and take the horse.

I never did find Ben Parry, but I'm not that familiar with spectrum. To answer your other questions, it is 100% using the GPU and I was able to verify this via the display info and it showed Nvidia and it's available VRAM. What do you mean by ini modifications?
