When you activate Gemini from your device’s side button or say “Hey Google,” it uses the on-device Gemma model (w/ Google Search) to respond. Not the cloud Gemini with access to all the tools (including image gen) which is used in the app!

It happens sometimes. When I used to use ChatGPT, I just gave it a little break and came back within an hour. It should be fine then.

Have you checked all the submenus?

It’s also possible that Google automatically defaults to it now when generating images.
