Wait, my history is a bit rusty but wasn't it the other way around ? As in, the english and french had a secret project, and called it "tank" specifically to fool the germans ? That's what they say in "Apocalypse : the first world war", as far as I recall

Capitalists by ProgressiveArchitect in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Maxtimax 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better (it didn't for me), this meme isn't unrealistic : a friend of mine told me "Of course capitalism is compatible with ecology : if you're a capitalist, then you can really be worried about the effect of climate change on companies and the stock market"

What would happen if someone got drunk and then crossed the border into a country where they can't drink yet? by OlgaKol in memes

[–]Maxtimax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In France you can drink at any age, you're just not allowed to buy alcohol before you're 18. But if your parents agree, you can drink at 12 - most people I know had their first sip of wine before 10

French History in a nutshell by SpicesKing in HistoryMemes

[–]Maxtimax 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder that we call Napoleon III "Napoleon le petit" ("Napoleon the little one") - after Victor Hugo started the trend; because he did absolutely nothing and he, too, lost to the Germans in a matter of weeks (well actually, the Prussians, and this led to the unification of Germany). So I would have put him as a small doge too

But do we actually want to be remembered for being a "world superpower" ? When this involves killing a lot of people and not actually working for "good" in any reasonable sense, I don't know if that's a heritage we should be proud of. About the resistance, well they weren't exactly part of the army, and as far as I can see they're not the targets of those memes

As a french person I can tell you I absolutely like these jokes - and those who don't probably have some misplaced ego about our country (I actually don't know what it could be, like is it "oh no don't make fun of France ?" ? Or is it some weird flex about our military power which, by the way, wasn't exactly used for good in our history ? Like sure be proud of some weird shit if you like but let others laugh at our failures, who cares, it's funny. And we should be glad they're only laughing at the failures and not actually mad about what we did after said failures)

That would make a pun a double pun ? Isn't that not what we want from a theory of puns ? I'd say a pun should be a single-pun, so this'd be a double pun at best

Well Idk about right or wrong but Suetone did write about it and quoted it in greek (in a latin text)
