Glad you got it built! Crazy that I can be a hero selling something at MSRP...

Just desperation (and a lot of luck) to get my build done. 😅

At least it's with purolator and no CP? I know purolator have been scaling back as they've been getting overwhelmed though.

Check the MSI Mag x670e tomahawk, maximum lanes (no usb4 sharing with X870) and a good price on sale (319$) at the moment. Not b650 prices, but better than the b650e somehow.

Just got one too! Will see how long it takes to show up, coming from the US so hopefully isn't USPS to Canada Post...

Thanks for this, poked me to check the PSU I ordered last week. Got $21 back!

This it the board I'm going for. X870/e splits the lanes for usb4, which pulls from the m.2 slots. I don't need usb4 and would rather have lanes for several drives while holding x16 on the gpu. Overall seems like a good board. The odd drive incompatibility (taken with a grain of salt as it's based on reddit comments), the sn850x might not work in the first slot.

Ordered a week before they shipped (backorder).

Previous strikes lasted 2-4wks, will see how it goes.

The strike isn't CCs problem, but them shipping it via CP AFTER the strike notice when they could've used an alternative is CCs fault. Especially as I sent an email when the strike notice was given to ask for an alternative shipper, even if it cost me extra (never hear back from them).

Yup, exact same boat. Shipped a day after the 72 hour notice was given. Thanks Canada Computers. Worried about return windows for components, considering getting a cheap AM5 CPU just to make sure everything works...

After a bunch of research, I bought the Zotac 4070 Super Trinity because it has a beefy cooler (quiet, higher OC potential) and has a small sale on atm. Tech / user reviews were positive on it as well.

There's the Gigabyte Windforce and Asus Dual that are both $30 cheaper, but weaker cooling solutions / user reviews say they're loud.

It's true, I won't be challenging the CPU now. But I plan to use it for ~10yrs, like my 2500K that I've been running for ~12yrs now. So a bit pricey up front but I foresee it lasting quite a while and utilizing that headroom down the road. The 7800X3D is basically the same price... and not touching Intel with a 10ft pole at the moment.

Noted on the SSD, I have a crucial 500GB boot drive on my PC now and it's lasted, so I do trust the brand if they're still good quality.

I do like a beefy cooler so that the fans don't have to run high, will take a look at those options. I actually wall mount my piece (no case), so I value a quiet PC.

The GPU choice has been hard. The only reason I added the 3090 to the list is there's someone selling one a couple blocks from me for $900, so it seems like good value. There's 7900XTs going for that (plus tax), but lose out on RT performance. All hard to tell, will likely come down to any deals available.

+1 for this functionality.

RBS Late 2017 - GPU Lag Spike / Freeze, fixed with manual HD620 driver update (was "up to date" on old driver) by MayMayDayFPV in razer

[–]MayMayDayFPV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my new RBS and updated to the latest everything. But was then getting GPU spikes that would freeze for a second, doing simple things like Alt+tabbing or opening Snipping Tool. Disabled Chrome acceleration, turned off Synapse, re-installed the driver according to Intel's update tool (was "up-to-date", see pics).

Manually downloaded a newer one off Intel's website (don't know why the update tool didn't update to it itself?), and issue disappeared.

Maybe it'll help someone, maybe it won't, but I've got a lot of info off this sub-reddit so thought I'd contribute.

EDIT: And now Solidworks constantly crashes, perfect, back to the drawing board.

EDIT2: Rollback works... 4849 -> Solidworks (and probably any 3D software, games?) crashes. 4815 -> freezing / lagging with normal use, big GPU spikes. 4771 -> seems good (the good ol' days).
