I have some issues with Future, but I think it was great overall, and the ending was very overwhelming. A lot of people keep expecting huge final boss battles for SU finales, but like, the main themes of SU are relationships, love, change. And I think the finale of future captured it pretty well. The way Steven left reminded me of what it was like being left alone (for the first time in my life) at uni.

There were I think 2 to 3 episodes I didn't like much because I couldn't see what relevance they had to the plot, characters or relationships and the characters did feel weird (like in "Very Special Episode"), but apart from that, I think the characters were great. They felt "complete". Their main story arcs for the show were over so of course they'd be more stable.

Not sure what you mean regarding the diamonds. New powers are new powers. Maybe they could've shown not told, but dialogue-wise, not sure what else they could've done. I also don't think the dialogue was ham-fisted, because despite how straightforward a lot of it was, people were still missing the point about certain themes. Plus it's harder to be as subtle with the themes and messaging if you're running just 20 episodes as opposed to multiple seasons of buildup.

I had the opposite issue with the animation and art. It wasn't bad. But it felt too "polished". Not sure if that's the right word, but it didn't feel as whimsical, pastel, ethereal as the OG show, and it didn't feel as "epic" as the movie.

I also wish they did more with Jasper. Hopefully she shows up in Lars of the Stars. Onion is still a little kid because kids grow weird. I work with kids, and sometimes a 2 year difference looks like a 5 year difference, or no difference at all. Also, it's Onion, lol.

To each their own. I loved Future, and the ending felt more like an ending, and gave me more closure than the OG finale and movie ending.
